![]() | I need your advice I was debating whether to post my question or not? But I’ve decided to post it. I have made the decision to switch to CCR and to get the Meg for various reasons, I’m currently looking for a Meg instructor where I could do my training and most likely I will be doing my training in the Red Sea (Sharm) My question is should I get the training before buying the unit or buy the unit and get trained on my unit? I would like to get your advice or share you experience with me. Thank you. -Menawer |

![]() ![]() | Re: I need your advice Congradulation on your decision to go CCR and your choice of unit is top notch. Go ahead and order your unit from ISC they will ship it to you when ready, minus a portion to be shipped to an approved (ISC approved) instructor, just to make sure you get the proper training with their baby. You will find the experience very rewarding and fun. ![]() |

Thank you. -Menawer now, in mind there are two issues. if you have really decided that the meg is what you want, then i guess you would feel more confy to go ahead and order it and do your training on it. that's what i did with mine. The other is that you can do the training, and maybe you feel that you don't like the unit...so you can always do a cross over course to some other unit. don't know, i guess you will save the money on the purchase. How do you feel. am happy with my unit, but then again, i haven't tried anything else to compare it with. i think the more experienced guys should come in to this. Cheers.

Note that the Meg is a far more customizable rig than many on the market. Can size, counterlung type, harness options, cylinder choices, the list just keeps going.. My point is that when training you would do best to train on a rig configured as yours will be. The easiest way to make that happen is to train on your own rig.I have made the decision to switch to CCR and to get the Meg for various reasons, I’m currently looking for a Meg instructor where I could do my training and most likely I will be doing my training in the Red Sea (Sharm) My question is should I get the training before buying the unit or buy the unit and get trained on my unit? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: I need your advice it is always beter for you to train on you own unit as you are able to make changes to the set up duing the class and customise it to your needs whilst training. silly things like harness and backplate are all personal, What works for me and how i set up my rental unit may not work for you. and there are only so many things i will let people change on it. as for training in egypt drop tekstreme an email they can arrange meg training in sharm. |

![]() | Re: I need your advice ... My question is should I get the training before buying the unit or buy the unit and get trained on my unit? ... Hi Menawer,Thank you. -Menawer Here are some things to think about. 1. If you can get your hands on a unit for training, chances are that they are going to want to rent it to you, and that can increase your costs for training. 2. There's nothing like the feeling of fondling YOUR rig while yakking about imminent rebreatherdom. 3. Do you really want to use a used rig during training? You don't know where it's been. At best, that could be like kissing your sister, or at worst, it could have been used by a smoker. 4. This is a good time to consider comfort and configuration issues, like where you're going to route your hoses, or your straps, or hang your bailout. Congrats, enjoy..... Ron

| Made in England. Current Rebreather/s: | Re: I need your advice Buy it now........ if you don't like later, you can sell it cheap on rebreatherworld, and give someone a great deal!!!! ![]() ![]() Only joking........ sort of How did you decide on the 'Meg' ? Have you tried one already, and have you tried any other CCR's? If you've already compared the unit to others, and tried more than one unit, then you might just as well 'buy now', on the other hand you could as has already been mentioned, get certified on a rental, and try to get some experience on other units too, to give you a comparison. Then you can be sure your getting what is right, or what 'you' feel is right for you. That's what i did and is my advice to anyone who is thinking about buying a CCR....... Try as many as possible before buying one!! ![]() ![]()

If your going to shell out 5,000-7,000 Euros for a rig and training, why not test drive all the options. Most people test drive a car before they spend the BIG bucks. Also, consider where you do your training. If you dive the cold dark waters back home in a drysuit with hood, drygloves, etc... Do you want to get trained in warm, clear water in a 3mm shorty. I like to train in the conditions I usually dive in. If you dive warm water mostly, go train in the Red Sea. Dave |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: I need your advice Perhaps I can draw some fire .If you haven't flown an Rebreather before, it will take numerous hours to become comfortable, and many times that more before you figure out the adjustments/customizations/etc, you want to do to your own rig. Getting it before or after training won't make much difference. Trying out many different Rebreather's as a newbie doesn't seem practical either. You won't be a very good judge, and you will be highly susceptible to the opinion of the person trying to sell you stuff. On that note, I won't mention that the **g is a damn good choice !Acquiring it prior to your training will however, allow you to practise your newly acquired skills at your next opportunity .To all those contemplating CCR, it is largely a leap of faith . Trying it out at first will be a very misrepresentative experience. |
