![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Beneath the Sea Meg Update I stopped by the ISC booth and a nice chat with Leon. Lots of new inovations coming from Centralia that will be available this summer. First is the Shadow Mounts. These are a replacement for the Tiger Gear. They are smaller, lighter and have a slimmer profile. These mounts are designed for steel or aluminum cylinders. P1010002a.jpg P1010003a.jpg The next inovation is an isolator valve for the O2 hose to the solenoid. Very useful for a failed open solenoid 'Boom' scenario. P1010008a.jpg The next inovation and my favorite is a Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) canister. It weighs 4.5 lbs vs 11 lbs for the aluminum. Think of the airline baggage limits. Beside the weight issue the FRP canister thermal characteristics allow heat to be retained thus enhancing the scrubber efficiency. P1010007a.jpg The next inovation is a new first stage. ISC will now use an APEX DS4 as the standard first stage for all their rebreathers. P1010004a.jpg For the FFM folks ISC adapted a Drager Nova mask with a DSV for the Meg. P1010009a.jpg P1010010a.jpg For the really cool factor ISC now has available a urathane coating for the canisters. This will be available for the both the aluminum or FRP canisters. The above pictures of the canister is with the urathane coating. For all those of you waiting for APECS 3, the next best thing is a fourth O2 sensor hooked up to a VR3. Existing units will need a new counter lung for the extra sensor. The fourth sensor while designed for the VR3 will be easily adaptable to other dive computers that will accept external input when they become available. P1010005a.jpg P1010006a.jpg Finally regarding APECS 3, according to Leon, "It will be ready, when it is ready." He indicated that the feature set has finalized and they are working on putting a prototype together. Production will begin when Leon is happy and not before. |

Had it put on my backplates and liked it so much I put it on my cannister. Kept my backplate from getting hot or cold from sun or water and when I sat it on my back it doesn't slide since it has a little texture. http://www.rebreatherworld.com/megal...html#post85102 |

Now that's the way to do it. ![]() The one thing you missed here though was the Polyurethane counterlungs... I don't have any photos, but they seemed quite nice. They are visible in your Solenoid Isolator photo. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Beneath the Sea Meg Update Nice kit. Now a mini meg in FRP with a Radial Scrubber coupled with those Tiny Lightweight clamps may make the ultimate traveling Rebreather, probably lighter than a rEvo Copis head and a VR3 plugged in Make a great piece of kit for Recreational Rebreather Diving. When the wife see's this she will probably want one. Ka ching............... ![]() One thing I am suprised at is the use of DS4's, with the new paired regs from APEK's (Can't remeber their name, they were in the new tech section at LIDS). all four ports point straight in one direction, they seem perfect, without compromise for the Meg ![]()
