![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mk15.5 New Electronics Well guys after much waiting the new secondary has arrived and is "bloody beautiful" as they say down here. A significant (read gigantic) step up from the old analogs or even the Mk 16 digitals if you were lucky enough to have one. You can see ALL 3 sensors ALL the time and push button calibration (just like a modern rebreather ) The button is under a standard LP plug on the back (see photos). There is a back lite option - just push the button. The secondary turns on automatically when the PPO2 in the loop is above .21 and then enters a sleep mode timer when the PPO2 drops back to .21 so you can do an air flush or have less than .21 in the loop for some time before it will shut down - (Jas you might be able to carify this a bit better) So really just plug and play stuff. I have checked the calibration a few times in the shed since last w/e and it seems to be holding steady - So combined with the new primary 'leccies also from Colkan the Mk15 / Mk15.5 breathers are a formidable piece of equipment. Old fashshioned military tough with modern electronics!! I dived the new electronics last week end and found them to be spot on. See the pics and ask questions if you like - but they can be had from Colkan in Australia or check out Subsea Systems - Rebreather Solutions for a bunch more info. Regards, Steve L |

Rare as hens teeth, the guys down under are having them made (by the original manufacturer I believe) in small batches when necessary. Just thought you might like to know. |

I'd agree that he is now the eminent Mark-15 series tech in the world. KJ's interest seems mainly keeping the HH fleet working and Colin is dedicating a lot of time to the Mark-15. His digital control electronics are simple and well proven. The secondary is state of the art. The digital control pod has software included that will shotly drive a HUD to replace the primary. Long relationship with Sherwood Carleton.... and polite, reliable, and timely in delivery of parts. I give him a thumbs-up. Limited internet presence, which is fine... emails are replied to same day. Shortly I'll be running (4) Mark-15's for my group of divers, one with HH electronics (mine, as soon as it comes out of KJ's shop where it's languished while the HH's were maturing), one with SM-1600 electronics, one with original military Rev-G analog pod, and one with Colkan electronics. Be very interesting to see how they are working a year from now. I'll write a report then. Gut feeling is that the diver wanting integrated deco will want the HH but that divers who want their Rebreather pods to control setpoint and who want a different system to do deco will want the Colkan. For sure though: BOTH will want the Colkan secondary.... what Mark-15 diver wouldn't? Dave Sutton |

Dave Sutton I am actually quite a fan of having the ultimate Oh SHXX!!! back up of a secondary which does not require any batteries... Now if an LCD could be made which runs off the cell voltage, I would be all over that... my understanding is that there is no LCD available which could operate on such a low voltage... If the system is designed right, without a backlight, a digital secondary could easily last better than a year on a single battery.. With reasonable battery changes, its probably more reliable than one powered just off the sensors, since it could be designed woth very high isolation, where a cell driven version cant have that high an isolation..Now if an LCD could be made which runs off the cell voltage, I would be all over that... my understanding is that there is no LCD available which could operate on such a low voltage... Hoppyinca ![]() there are many LCDs than can operate on 1-2ma (without a backlight), a good low power design for everything else about another 2ma or less while active (practically 0 when sleeping).. if for safety's sake we say 4ma total draw, a single 2400ma AA lithium cell would have 600 hours of active time.. even cutting that down to a 1/2 aa cells its still 300 hours of dive time. if you start adding things like blink leds for a HUD this obviously drops the life considerably, but just as a seconadry po2 monitor.. it can last a real long time.. Thats considerably more dive time than some manufacturers of equipment using high output cells are recommending between cell changes..

Hoppyinca ![]() The Colkan secondary is said to work for 700 hours (without backlight) and 180 (with backlight) and has a battery indicator showing how much power is left (100% - 75% - 50% - 25%).
