![]() | Re: Mk 15 - is it that good now? IMO, at the moment at least, the Boris wins over a good MK15.5 (not a MK15 as it really is quite different) due to fantastic electronics, use of standard tanks, better wob, ease of offboard plug in (direct feed to solenoid and adv). Both will happily take you as deep as you want to go. For the diving I do I think either beats anything else on the market, If I felt differently Id be diving a different unit ![]() But both units are quite big and heavy they are suited for big dives. I would get something smaller/lighter for weekend bimbles ...I plan on keeping both units the 15.5 as a spare for when boris is being serviced or out of action [this post was not from bruce - he forgot to log off ] |

Off the top of my head I can think of maybe 4 units in Australia (Denlay, McHatten, Mitchell and Hadwin); one of which, according to urban myth hasn't been below 6m (correct me if I'm wrong Simon) LOL yes you are very wrong it has been deepr than 6 msw![]() UK pounds 5.5k seems a lot when you can get a "new" 15.5 from Colkan for around OZ$16k. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mk 15 - is it that good now? There may be only a hundred or so out there in civilian land but there are are aparently thousands of units in military service around the world. If they were unreliable or killing to many navy diver then I am sure they wouldnt have survived 30 years or so of service. Pound for pound the Mk series has probably done more hours in the water than all the other units combined. Its not to say other units aren't good or well manufactured or have wiz bang electronics. Because that is just not true, there are plenty of units on the market for all levels of diving, and people will be more suited to one particular type of unit than another - and much of that suitablility will be personal preference. Take the kiss for example - there are plenty of people out there that just have an inate distrust of electronics - wrightly or wrongly it is their choice ........ Personally I find my MK15.5 an awesome unit with loads of capability that will allow me do do all the diving I ever plan to do. I have hand made backplates and plumbed it up with swagelok fittings and and and - do I have to - NO - it just suits me to go out to the shed at night and tinker I have dived a "classic" inspo for years and it certainly is a great unit but the 15.5 "suits" me better. Just my 2cents worth - Regards, Steve |
