![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | After market Mk15.x covers greetings fellow Mk15.x divers... I have a newbie to Rebreather diving, so new that my rig is still getting all kinds of love and affection from JM... I was wondering if anyone is in need, would want, or knows of anyone who would buy an "after market" Mk15.x cover? I had a cost estimate written up from a local thermo-forming company for making Lexon covers. I was thinking clear (easy leak check and leak location determination), but colors would definitely be an option too... Anyone, anyone... Bueller, Bueller,... Hoppyinca ![]() |

I just got a new stock original from Colkan in Australia and it was great, for about a dozen dives. Then there were the scratches. Black fiberglass is just asking for it. Lexan would be nice, but what do you do if it breaks? What about epoxy and carbon fiber instead of the standard fiberglass. In any case, would like to know more about the lexan covers. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: After market Mk15.x covers I was looking at lexon as it is a fairly durable material (cracking should not occur without severe/ extreme abuse) and having it a clear material is not an issue... I argree with the scratching issue... the smaller scratches could most likely be buffed, but the deep gouges (like the ones I have created on the bottom lip of the "scubber section" and the very bottom lip of the cover) I am fairly certain could not be buffed... but they would be CLEAR gouges... That being said I was looking at it for more of a quick leak check decision tool... That is... no leaks - continue dive minor leak - from where... (the clear cover allows some leak location determination) now a decision can be made as to wether the size and location of the leak warrants terminating the dive. major leak - terminate dive, but trouble shooting for leak location has already been done! as far as price is concerned, I really want one, I just need some help with the $$$ to make it feasible. So price would not be far off form the price Phi qouted for an original... just remember, none have been made, no testing has been done... I have seen after market covers for YBOD's on http://www.therebreathersite.nl/insp...n_specials.htm made by Justin Edgington. I even spoke to an owner of a clear YBOD cover, this is why I started thinking about it. Though our discussion did not get into durability... Anyone have any comments on how these covers fair in daily use? Hoppyinca ![]() |

Ill wait for a while and then buy yours cheap (assuming they recover the unit) [seriously dude, dont dive a unit that is not 100% - with RBs its a good life preserving attitude]

Having a scuffed-up, gnarly Mark 15/15.5 cover is a sign that you're actually a Mark 15/15.5 DIVER. Never trust a man with a brand-new looking piece of dive gear. ![]() The GUTS of the thing you want to look perfect, that's the part that keeps you alive, but the outside is what tells everyone you're a hard-core-deep-water-shark-divin'-man, and attracts the most chicks. It's like looking at a man's hands. If his hands are all pretty and nice, with manicured fingernails, no scars or evidence of past broken fingers, it tells you he hasn't lived a very interesting life. A hard-living workin' man will show the signs of it somewhere on his body. A rebreather is no exception. Gosh. You youngsters sure need a bit of an education... ![]() ![]() Kevin. |

Dude, I don't know...There are plenty of guys with hands like that around here driving VERY expensive cars to their MEGA yatchs with REALLY good-looking babes in the cars with them. I sure want their "uninteresting" lives... ![]() |

You youngsters sure need a bit of an education... ![]() Kevin. well, I just got an email from the guy I know with the clear YBOD cover. His is actually made of ABS (same material as te original), and just to keep everyone happy... He said it has many scratches... but still totally clear underwater! and no cracks... So, I guess the water "fills in the scratches" while submerged, making leak checks possible, and would then allow them to glisten more when out of the water making "Manliness" checks possible! Best of both worlds, right? Being made of lexon these covers would actually be a bit tougher. Now... who wants one? Hoppyinca P.S. in regards to manliness... a wise friend of mine once told me, after I declared myself "hard" referring to hardcore/ manly/ tough... (no comments on other possible references of "hard")... "there is a fine line between 'Hard' and 'Dumb'"... ![]() |
