Mk15 analogue electronics

I am looking for some sort of "Mk15 analogue electronics" user manual. I would like to find out how to set up setpoint on that and what that unit is showing on primary display during the dive. I already red everything I found on Juergensen Marine web site.

Thx for help in advance,
Marcin

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

It depends which analogue electronics you have. Take a look at the following page.
http://www.deepdiving.net/15/15v155.html

Does your electronics look like either of the ones shown in the pods?

Regards,
Jason.

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

Marcin,

We could provide you with all the information you would need - but what concerns me is that by your question it is clear you haven't been trained on this particular rig.

Please understand, there are certain things about the Mark 15 that you have to be particular about - and calibrating is one of the very big ones. There are lots of people who can tell you generally how to calibrate the analog electronics, but I am going to assume that the unit you got is from the recent lot that was sold out of DRMO.

If that is the case, we have found MANY of them where the Analog electronics no longer work properly (which is a mystery, since the one's we've seen look like they've never been wet). The failure(s) we have seen are in the Solenoid Firing - even with full batteries.

Do yourself a favor, and start a discussion with any of the very well qualified Instructors for the Mark 15 who are out there (many of whom are active on this board). Even if you don't intend to get trained (we live in the real world here, and some folks don't want to pay for cross-training) MAKE SURE you at least spend a fair bit of time talking to instructors on the Mark 15, and even doing a lot of "couch dives" on the rig before you dive it.

Be advised, from an "expert" point of view (and I do not use that term blithely) - ALL of the Mark 15's that came out of DRMO, while attractive on the surface, are in DIRE need of restoration work on the inside. Every single seal inside the units are gone (as one would expect, being in storage for 25 to 30 years), and though they may hold gas at first, they can and WILL fail on you eventually.

If you have ANY questions, please feel free to ask - at the end of the day, no one wants anyone hurt. It looks like you've already downloaded our maintenance Manual which should help you sort out some of the things you need to be concerned about with these particular rigs.

Take care,

Kevin Juergensen

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

Hi Kevin,

I do not have any MK15 jet. However I was offered to buy one. The owner claims that is in workable condition but I would like to be able to verify that. Any suggestion ?
I was trying to contact instructors but they all would like to train me first (I would like to do it after transaction if happened). As far as I know that unit have only one set point configurable before the dive. Am I correct ?

Best regards,

Marcin

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

Hi Marcin,

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do outside of looking over the unit yourself thoroughly before buying it. There are some real great machines out there that have never been wet, and there are some stinkers.

I don't know what the Buddy or Meg crowd does in this case, but I would guess it would be the same - try your best to get a good feel of the Seller to make sure they aren't out to just take your money, plan on doing AT LEAST a complete rebuild with all new seals, and get trained by someone who (a) owns their own Mark 15, and (b) does their own maintenance.

Rule of Thumb: If a guy drives a Hyundai full time, don't hire him to teach you how to drive a Porsche...

E-mail me <kevin@rebreather.us> if you have any questions about the rig you're thinking about buying. Be advised, there is also some schmo out there who says he is selling a CCR-1000/Mark 15 but is just ripping people off. Don't send any money via Wire or Western Union.

Take care,

Kevin Juergensen

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

One other thing:

I forgot to answer your question:

In the case of the original Mark 15 Analog Electronics (what are commonly referred to as the "Rev. G"), there is only 1 Set-Point available after calibration. According to the Manual, this is .75 ppO2. Back in the old days, us non-conforming civilians figured out a way to "trick" the system into maintaining 1.2 ppO2.

So the short answer to your question is Yes. There is only 1 Set-Point available on the Rev. G electronics. This is also true for the 1st Gen Digitals that Will and I developed (though you can select 5 different Set-Points during Calibration).

Take care,

Kevin.

DUDE!
Have some green.

Thanks you for keeping an eye out for the layman and helping out.
I for one appricate it...

For those that do not know it “the dude” writes some of the funniest things I have ever read. If you ever dig out McKenzie again please post it to your blog sir. You and Richard Pyle were a mean team. Talk about laugh.

Best Regards, Andrew

Re: Mk15 analogue electronics

Along time ago Kevin used to write funny dive stories about a character called McKenney. I was making a refrence to these stories.

This was not related to you sir or your question about mk15.5 analogue electronics. Sorry for the confusion.

The stories that I was talking about can be found here-
http://www.electricfilm.com/divinghumor.htm
Again sorry for any confusion.

Best Regards, Andrew
