Cooper hose adapters

My machinist is a true artist. Problem: how to fit 1.5 inch ID Cooper hoses to a standard MK15 center section. Solution: an adapter (of course).

Thought I'd share some pictures of the nice Delrin adapters that I had made up to accomplish this. I had sets made in both white and black so that I would have a harder time installing the loop backwards in the heat of the moment.

The adapter screws together to make an o-ring face seal, nice and simple. I was going to have the nuts made of brass but I got lucky and my machine shop had a big (REALLY big) bar of monel lying around unused so they made them from that. Should outlast western civilization.

Anyway I have attached the CAD drawings in .pdf format below in case anyone cares. Also, I had a second full set made up. I couldn't get 22 inch Cooper hoses (they were sold out as usual), but I'm a small guy and the 20 inch ones seem to work ok with a little less wiggle room for my head. If anyone has a set of 22 inch Cooper hoses they would like to trade me for my extra set of adapters, I'd be more than happy.

Nice job.

Not trying to be funny or piss on your fireworks but I would personally not use a face seal for this application. A barrel seal (as is normally used in Rebreather hoses) is far safer due to the fact even if the hoses arent fully tightened or turn for whatever reason you will still keep a seal. A face seal is less reliable method as it will only seal if the hoses are screwed on tight.

Having said that I guess as long as your doing a pre dive neg test it will show up if seal isnt made and I guess hose arent likley to unsrew during a dive so its likely not a big deal

Hi Mike,

No problem and you are right of course. The first version I drew had a radial seal design with two o-rings. In the end I was unhappy with the inner diameter dictated by this design - I could have simply made the whole assembly larger to account for this but I took the easy way out instead

Of course now I'm worried about cooper hose failure after reading about your problem last weekend! My other rig's loop is from a Drager Dolphin and I do like the way it breathes and rides.
