U.S. Navy Introduces the Next-Generation Underwater Breathing Apparatus It was/is a great program to be involved in. We're very proud to have developed the electronic systems for these new rigs, as well as the Mark 16 Mod 3 (Naval Special Warfare) units. There were many talented individuals associated with this program, and it was an honor to work with all of them. Kevin Juergensen Juergensen Defense Corporation P.S. Now you guys know what "Other CCR" means in my Avatar. Mark 16 Mod 2/3 + Viper E |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: US Navy approves Mk 16 mod 2 How do these new units differ from the old Mk16's that the navy has been using for years? Obviously new electronics. Anything else? Cheers, Paul

Obviously new electronics. Anything else? It's like comparing the V2 rocket with the F1. They both go up, but one does so with much more panache (if not sheer thrust)...Cheers, Paul ![]() And I really can't get into the details, guys. Honest. ![]() Kevin. |

So the electronics are all new and wizz bank - granted BUT has the breathing loop changed ? different scrubber ? different plexidome ? more or less volume ? even more exotic spheres ? Not details kev just a few yes and no answers would be OK to keep us interested. \ SteveL |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: US Navy approves Mk 16 mod 2 There is one change to the Center Section, having to do with the Mod 2/3 Electronics. There are a few changes in the Pneumatic System, again, electronic related. There's a couple of changes to the Case. Huge change in the PEA (Primary Electronics Assembly) - essentially a brand new set up from top to bottom. Huge change in Secondary and Primary Displays, incorporating lots of very slick features that only a guy slinging a gun or limpet mine would appreciate. The rest of the rig is more or less the same (Cover, Bottles, Hoses, etc). Oh, and they're going to build more NEW ones as well. For the record, the Navy assessed the Divex Stealth, Viper E, and Mark 16 for the NUBA program. Given everything that they are particularly concerned with, the Mark 16 (with the Mod 2 (EOD) and Mod 3 (NSW) electronics) performed the best. The best way to describe the program is a "process" and not an "event". There are further enhancements to the system in the works for the next few years, so it's safe to say that the Mark 16 will be around for quite some time. Oh, and the Ozzies will be seeing the new sets shortly.... ![]() Kevin Juergensen Juergensen Defense Corp. Last edited by heyydude : 22nd March 2008 at 23:23. |

By the sounds of it Im glad the Mk15.5 with rock solid albeit basic electronics is sill in fasion as far as loop design and performance goes. Space shuttle in a beer can electronics are cool to be sure but at the most basic level this machine this is there to keep us alive under a wide range of operating conditions. So im glad with all the $$ that the navy has to to R&D that the basic pnumatic system and breathing loop is still in vouge. Im sure the AUSSIES (not Ozzie) will make it sing too. Now about those new spheres you were sending me for a test dive............. Thanks Steve L |

Not many can say same of other units ![]() ok ok guess you can buy a van full of sports units for price of one MK16 ![]() Kev, as they will be building more new mk16s does that mean the old 'tools being destroyed' thing was a myth or are they re-tooling? Its funny I was having dinner with a Carlton guy who is selling Vipers to navies. He was very very surprised to hear I had a mk15.5 (he only knew of MK16s) treated me with some suspicion over that, and made the point, quite clearly, that to him MK16s were old antique technology and Carlton were strongly pushing Vipers to navies as the future. I wonder if its a case of Navy wanting to stick to what they Know even though Carlton may prefer to give them Vipers?? or perhaps he was just not informed. I was surprised as he was quite clear that to him mk16s were antiquated and obsolete (his words).
