Not many can say same of other units

ok ok guess you can buy a van full of sports units for price of one MK16

Kev, as they will be building more new mk16s does that mean the old 'tools being destroyed' thing was a myth or are they re-tooling?

Its funny I was having dinner with a Carlton guy who is selling Vipers to navies. He was very very surprised to hear I had a mk15.5 (he only knew of MK16s) treated me with some suspicion over that, and made the point, quite clearly, that to him MK16s were old antique technology and Carlton were strongly pushing Vipers to navies as the future. I wonder if its a case of Navy wanting to stick to what they Know even though Carlton may prefer to give them Vipers?? or perhaps he was just not informed. I was surprised as he was quite clear that to him mk16s were antiquated and obsolete (his words).
A note from the inside -
This is NOT Carleton's position - no matter where you may have heard it.

I heard it from a Carleton sales man (selling Vipers to Asian navies)

I was surprised and frankly skeptical

You probably already know this: the US military is a massive bureaucratic behemoth where stuff moves very slow. It is by far the most inefficient military on the planet, except for most of the rest :-)

Probably because they don't need them. I've heard from sources within that wherever there's a conflict, the Aussies do all the work with their A5800's while the Yanks sit around amongst a pile of broken Mk16's.

Cheers,
Jason.

Thats why I bet the Aussies CD's will stick with their A5800. Why replace what works just fine the way they are.

That was happening when we were still using the FGT 1A. Spot the US EOD tech sitting on the shipping container
