ADV schrader valve specs

anything special to look for when replacing the ADV schrader valve?
(pin travel/ material for body/ etc.)

I re-piped some stuff, testing for leaks and the schrader was leaking by. I procured 2 different ones from my local tire shop, but neither appears to be the same as the one I removed.

I am in the midst of googling for info; any and all help would be appreciated!

thanx

Excuse me if I am referencing the obvious, but did you give your valve a good cleaning before considering replacing it? I mean, soaking it in vinegar for a while/and or ultrasonic cleaning? I was thinking calamitous replacement thoughts when my Schrader started leaking right before a dive last year. Charlie suggested cleaning it, and I was embarrassed that vinegar actually did the trick in just a few seconds.

I'll let you know if i'm embarrassed... I just thought it was a small inexpensive part so...

I will soak it and find out, thanks, didn't even cross my mind...

Re: ADV schrader valve specs

The actual part is the Schraeder out of a high pressure (3000 PSI) aircraft nitrogen fitting. It looks like a tire stem, but is stainless steel and of higher quality. It's not 'really' a tire stem.

Re: ADV schrader valve specs

<gag>....

The Schraeder thing was just serindipity: I had a box of nitrogen accumulator fittings in the hangar, unscrewed a stem, and said "Hm.... that looks like it would fit a Mark-15"....

It did.

F-86 parts and Mark-15 parts interchange. Go figure.

Re: ADV schrader valve specs

Schrader style valve cores are used in many applications. Refrigerant systems, aircraft landing gear struts etc.

There a variety of combinations of materials for fluid compatibility, operating pressure etc.

Re: ADV schrader valve specs

Does anybody know where a combination drill/reamer/tap would be available for the schrader valve seat or do the three seperate items need to be made up? Thanks

You will need a drill, porting tool and tap. I don't remember the specs right off the top of my head, but I might have them at the shop.

You might be able to get a step drill made that would replace the twist drill and porting tool.

I'd recommend checking with the valve core suppliers. These are specialty tools.

Are you making up a new add valve system from scratch, or fixing an existing one?

If you are fixing an existing one, you only need to polish the seat... not ream it.

If you are making up one from scratch, all of the components are off the shelf parts.

If you want to add a Schraeder to a solid block (valve body, etc), you can buy tubes that are threaded on the interior for the stem, and on the exterior for insertion into another component. We use these to make pneumatic speargun filler systems and when seated with epoxy into a solid block are good to any reasonable pressure.

Or, as before, you can buy a porting tool that does the diameter and the seat, and then tapping is a second machining operation.
