KISS DSV mouthpieces

Had a little oopsie yesterday while I was diving. My KISS DSV came apart from my mouthpiece. luckily there was only a minor flood so I was able to go back on the loop.

I prefer heat moulded dental mouthpieces to the run of the mill ones otherwise there is too much jaw strain. Mine is a seacure - seems I may have the wrong size to fit the KISS DSV. I think it is a type II.

On the second dive of the day, the mouthpiece came off the DSV again as I jumped into the water from the boat. Clearly there is a lot of strain on the mouthpiece/DSV joint when there is heavy current or a stride entry. I need to sort this out.

Any recommendations for a new mouthpiece, suggestions?

Thanks

Andy

Andy,

I've used the Jax orthodontic one since about 4 weeks after getting my KISS.

To get a decent seal, I aquasured it to the DSV, then cable tied on top.

So far, its worked an absolute treat.

Hi Andy,

I got around the issue by cable-tying a rubber reg necklace either side of the OC/CC DSV, taking up the slack on the back (another cable tie) and pulling it over my head.

Its easy to get off using the 'tail' at the back, theres no stress on mouthpiece, no jaw fatigue, DSV stays in, protected airway. Its a winner.

Of course you could buy one from AP but that'll cost you a cool £54..!!

HTH

cheers

I've also replaced the Kiss mouthpiece for a Seacure (Type II as well).
Have already made three dives with it and it fits well, no problems at all. Is the plastic tie well tighten?

I use a Pro II seacure on my KISS. The pro is a little heavier construction. Hasn't come off yet but it has the tendency to leak if I look up (strain issue I guess). I like the aquaseal idea. I am going to give that a go.

My recommandation would be a standard orthodontic mouth piece (with the little arch such as Apeks, Aqualung...) + a chin rest ==> no leak at the mouth piece, no need to bite and have a clanched jaw and breath between your front teeth, the chin rest does it all. No need for aquaseal, Aquasure or other kind of glue either.
Best

I just dont get it. I have been diving the KISS for a few years now and this has never happened to me. I have tried a fair number of mouthpieces as I searched for the one I like and I didn't ever get a leak. I'm sorry guys but could someone explain how you are getting leaks? Once more for the slow kid.

Seacure mouthpieces (and maybe orthodontic mouthpieces in general) are relatively inflexible compared to other mouthpieces and so its difficult to induce a fit to a regulator orifice using a zip tie.
