KISS Import Code

I've got a KISS Sport on it's way over from Jetsam

I've just phoned Customs and Excise to get some information on the TARIC Code required. I told them it was diving equipment / breathing apparatus, and they said I should use code 90200000080 which is for 'Breathing appliances and gas masks - other' !

Good news is - the tariff is only 1.7%. Has anyone managed to find an applicable code with lower duty

try 9020.00.90.90 which covers underwater breathing apparatus - self contained

i think it's less than 1.7% (will check this evening) - I used this in May (ta Janos)

You still get clobbered for the vat on the unit, vat on carriage, and vat on import duty as I recall

Once you've paid that you stop worrying whether duty was 1.7% or 1%

Yes for the unit VAT, no for the carriage and no for the import duty. VAT on the goods only. And it was me that put Janos on to the TARIC codes. And Phil at Divingniknaks. Many beers were forthcoming.

Thanks for asking that Iratnl I was just about to ask the same question and thanks to everyone else for the answers.

I haven't ordered my unit yet though, looks like it will be september before I do.

If you don't have a TARIC code a blanket 10% import duty is popped on the imported goods. If you do have a TARIC code the import duty is dramatically reduced. Simple.

If you are importing something and you've worked out the TARIC what do
you do with it ?

Do you:

a) give it to the people sending the goods ?
b) phone HM C & E when the goods arrive ?
c) none of the above
d) A + B

Perhaps this should be on the KISS exam
