Re: Modifications

Ok, I don't even pick up my KISS until March 4th but I'm already considering potential mods (i guess we all do it, right )

I want to replace the Ali couterlung case with a S/S one, and I'm planning on recycling the g-snaps that I've collected over the years to attach tanks.

In the future I'll consider removing one of the KISS displays to plumb in my VR3, I'd like a HUD but am undecided about how best to achieve this (there are plenty of interesting options out there), I may replace the manifold with the rather neat M&J Y-Block and off-board gas addition.

I don't plan to make any radical changes until I've spent a good few months diving it pretty much stock.

Cheers

Rich

Re: Modifications

On my CK I:

removed the manifold

switched dil/O2 position (enabled the removal of manifold)

removed the counterlung case entirely

fabricated a new case which holds a horizontal tank for ds inflation and stands the unit up while removing the scrubber and moves the unit closer to my back

purchased the new type ADV valve stems to replace the type with the glued o-ring

purchased hose weights

Still to come:

Version two of my frame

Addition of VR3 at some point

HUD addition maybe

Sounds good, have you got any photos/ details of how you have done this.

Thanks

Re: Modifications

Now that I've had chance to do a few dives on my KC/CK I thought I would add my two penneth.

1) Removed jammed studs and re tapped all holes to M8 and use M8 bolts

2) Added extra holes for APD (British) hole spacing to match my Tekwing
and modified OMS ally backplate.

3) Removed the SS braided hoses on the dil side so I could eliminate the
Swagelock right-angle connector and turn the reg 1st stage by 90 dgerees.
This stops the Apeks reg hitting the floor.

4) Turned the O2 first stage by 90 dgerees for same reason as above.

5) New manifold without any NPT ports.

6) Swapped the enormously long (stretched) hoses for APD ones of a more practical length. Shortened the Paragon hose to match.

7) Added APD hose weights because they are easier to adjust and look good.

8) Unit all ready had metal cylinder brackets (G-Snaps ?) when I got it. They are a bit rough and can be awkward to use.

Coming soon:

9) Left-handed valve on O2 tank to improve hose routing, streamlining and
eliminate another snag-point.

10) APD hose connectors and one-way valves on the BOV to eliminate the Jubilee clips

11) APD GCS for off-board gas addition

12) Might plumb the paragon directly into the Apeks 1st stage instead of the
manifold.

13) Looking for some better straps for the displays. My ideal solution is to have a mounting plate that I can strap over my arm and then just clip the displays onto it when getting into the unit.

Re: Modifications

1. Ditched paragon on DSV & replaced with S.P. G500. If I was limited to one mod this would be it.

2. Replaced stiff diaphram in ADV with one that is a bit easier to activate.

3. Removed braided hose on Dil side & routed dil to ADV only.

4. Added QD to manifold to hook up offboard gas. This supplies everthing except ADV.

5. Cut slots in counterlung case to run webbing through. This eliminated the backplate, making the unit ride closer to the back. Cut profile an inch & improved WOB. I use a Dive rite Trek wing mounted in the sidemount manner. This wing is the perfect size & shape for the Classic IMHO.

6. Made protective shroud out of 6" pvc to use on dives that are a bit "tight".

7. Added a manual add for dil. Ditched it as it is not worth the extra clutter & is not needed with the lighter ADV diaphram.

8. Will be adding the SubSea displays with HUD & VR3.

Re: Modifications

I thought I would start a thread with pics of the MODS to my CK.

- Today I got out the old angle grinder and started chopping the CL case. I felt that the 1st stage guards on the bottom were always in the way and not needed since I have the narked stand. They primarily get in the way because they are positioned for use with AL13's. I commonly switch between Steel 19s, Steel 13's and AL 27's. It just wasn't right. Now I can lower the 1st stage below the CL case and get the tanks to the right height.

- Also for a cool $21.50 I got the canister Line-X'd.

- Last month I added offboard O2 and DIL (redundant systems).

- I upgraded to Miflex hoses on the MAV.
