| Train Wrecked ;) Current Rebreather/s: | My Next KISS Project - Pics Ok - So I'm not going to completely explain what I am doing ahead of time. There are two reasons - One, it is a work in progress that I am collaborating with a friend on, and two, it's more fun this way ![]() So to start off, the main focus is on the "frame", also known as the counterlung case. My main focus is on hardening the structure for all around diving with a focus on cave and wreck. In doing this, it must trim out with no additional weight. To start, I checked the CG of the entire unit: Next, I measured and cut the raw materials. For this project, everything is .125" stainless: ![]() ![]() The thickness was selected for it's weight given a drysuit diver. The aluminum spine from the original CK was used, and the new pieces where drilled and chamfered: ![]() The new "spine" will be much tighter, and less involved (keeping with the KISS principle ):![]() The head with the spacer in place. and measuring for the cut-outs for the "optional" back-mount counter lungs ![]() ![]() ![]() Also measuring the position of the "ring" ![]() And the cut-out's done for the "optional" accessories: ![]() Here she is after a day's work: ![]() In the next couple of days I'll finish the welding and other fit-up. Check back soon. (Special thanks to Holland! )

It's just the way the picture has been taken (lighting, contrast)Completely off-topic, I assume all that white goo is O2 grease on all the o-rings. Its seems alittle excessive due to the pressures of O2 those parts will experience? Look at the same stuff but from a different angle: ![]() And yes - It's crystolube, but in very small amounts. I don't like the idea of mixing lubes across components, so I stick with a single one that is O2 safe.

| Train Wrecked ;) Current Rebreather/s: | Re: My Next KISS Project - Pics Brockbr, where does the Heineken bottle fit? Will a Amstel bottle fit just as well? How does it affect trim when empty? The Heineken bottle plays an important role in construction, one that is similar to whiskey while removing a bullet. Let me explain...The central piece of stainless tube (see my next post) which protects the scrubber and head from impacts, only clears the scrubber by .125". Since I am dealing with relatively thick stainless (.125"), any heat put into the piece allows it to move ever so slightly. Given the tight clearances I have to maintain and still have a useful end product, I had to have a way to weld it in while monitoring its position and movement. So... take a guess what that required? I had to bolt the head and scrubber to the unit, mock up the tube, then tack and weld it with the plastic tube IN PLACE. Removing it wasn't any option since each bead of weld would have the tube move. I had to dance back and forth from side to side, putting heat here, letting it cool over there, with it moving :yikes: All the while, not getting too much heat into the piece that the plastic scrubber would be effected - Talk about a nail biter ![]() So - The Heineken bottle(s) were critical to calming the nerves ![]()

| Train Wrecked ;) Current Rebreather/s: | More Progress Last night, I was able to get some of the welding done. I snapped these pics while it was still hot and haven't even wire-brushed the welds yet. ![]() ![]() And the answer of "lightweight travel version" isn't correct. Try again ![]()
