![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Display options Hello all, This past weekend my old style KISS display "took a drink" of saltwater. This had the obvious results ![]() I now have 2 functioning displays. I was thinking of continuing their usage and adding a HUD to the third cell. Anyone else doing it this way? The other thing is : what happens when I lose another display? Bottom line is I'm looking for options/opinions. So, hit me! Thanks in advance, Andy BTW- pendant display is NOT an option, I have one and it serves as a backup display only.

| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Display options Its been said so many times before but.... its hard to fault the Shearwater GF/Pursuit option, people have whined about the "redundacy" issues of going back to one cable, one display but on the flip side they don't seem to leak, software is the much ignored but IMO best feature- its superbly simply yet very capable. I have a GF and SW HUD on my KISS, the Jetsam displays live in my spares box (so I have a spare "head" option in case of a flood) I strongly suspect they'll stay there and be sold on with the unit- I like the GF so much I would want to keep it if/when I ever move on. Sorry- hope I don't sound like a stuck record, every KISS thread about electronics contains the above post/or similar at least once ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Display options You can also go the Subsea route. Get the kidney and DS1 display, plus the HUD if you like. Then add a Shearwater, hardwired in to read all 3 cells, and you have a primary display/deco computer, plus a HUD and a complete redundant display. Works great! cheers Andy p.s. I can seel you my old original displays and kidney. 1 perfect display, and two with minor issues... A

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Display options I went through the same thought process, are three independant but leaky displays better than one single but reliable unit? I bought a Shearwater in the end purely on the grounds that it was cheap (a used unit) and provided a backlit display. Other options would be the ugly looking URM from Delta P, the Subsea display, a Sartek or have something made. After about 5 months of using the Shearwater, I think it's overwhelmingly "alright". They are nicely made and have some good functions but I'm not in the gushing praise camp, they are good but I wouldn't go overboard on them. I am talking about the GF, I haven't used a Pursuit. Things I like, it has a controllable backlight (my displays were 1st gen and unlit), easy calibration, mV display, lots of info in one place, I like the dil flush PO2 predictor function. It also acts as a data logger. As Ben says, it is very easy to use which is handy as the manual isn't particularly great. Things I don't like, the GF is ****ing huge, so much so that I find if I try equalising with my left arm it gets in the way of my mask & DSV. When scootering I've no choice but to use the arm the GF sits on. The wet switch is a bit arsey. Can't comment on the deco functions as I still dive on tables. Things I especially don't like, the three cells have a common ground lead which can lead to problems if you have a problem with a connection or wire. I also don't like the display as sometimes I find it a bit cluttered, info overload (for me anyway). If I didn't have a GF I don't think I'd go to the expense of buying a Pursuit just for a triple display. If I was doing it again then without a doubt I'd buy the Subsea display. The ones I've seen are absolutely beautifully made. If you want just a display then I'd order one of them. Downside, the HUD option needs the display to drive it. My second choice would be double Jetsam display with the Shearwater on just the third cell (unfortunately mine will not calibrate on just one cell ). I'm still not overwhelmed by the need for a HUD after three years on my CK.Sartek do a triple display but I'm not entirely sure how you'd mate that with a KISS kidney without a bit of work to the kidney. Cheers, Stuart

| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Display options Things I don't like, the GF is ****ing huge, Agreed, fortunatly I'm fat and the GF is smaller than my arm in a drysuit so it doesn't get in the way anymore than I do! ![]() FWIW Although I have the GF and HUD I would like a "secondary display" but fear I'm going to need a new kidney to accomodate it. It would be nice if someone made a generic kidney with 3-5 "ports" in the front for us folk with multiple displays from different manufacturers! (Without Fischer connectors of course! Please please please- no more awful connectors! ) |

You mean the one with the sliding magnet or the rotating plate ? How many hours on it? If more than, say a hundred hours, then is it worth changing for anything else or just get the same ?![]() Otherwise, if you want to change and get a HUD, Subsea is my choice: The one with the integrated kidney, not the hub. It's compact, epoxied all around. If you're sceptical about 1 cable for all 3 displays, then take 2 DS1 + HUD. Best Philippe |

And as if by magic...I just happen to have a kidney going spare, one port with a stainless gland fitted, two other ports tapped with M12 threads which can have glands fitted (I've got some 10bar plastic glands going spare or Narkedat90 sell the S/S ones)... All three ports are angled so the cables come up and over like the original display cables do so no problem with them getting fouled. The old kidney I use with my SW has two ports but one is obstructed by the ADV swivel and is unusable. All the domes are drilled through so that the wiring can be passed. Open to offers (fnar, fnar). Cheers, Stuart (but will also answer to "Arkwright" )

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Display options Thanks for the replies fellas. I found the pendant display not to my liking, so I bought an older display to see if that was more to my taste. All I need is 3 cell readings on my arm and I'm happy. Stuart, thanks for talking me out of a HUD! Regards, Andy
