Sport KISS upgrades

Hi Everyone,

We are now ready to upgrade existing Sport KISS units to the new R22D sensor housing. For those who are interested, we can do upgrades for the jetsam triple display, and also provide the Closed Circuit Research pendent display and full monitoring system.

We already have a waiting list of clients who wish to upgrade. Upgrades will happen on a first come, first serve basis. We hope to have a turn around time of 7 to 10 days for these parts, from the time that they arrive in our warehouse.

I have attached our retail pricing for these upgrades. If the attachment does not go through with this email, please contact Evelyne at kmjt@jetsam.ca.

All upgrade inquiries should also go to Evelyne, as she is coordinating this service work.

Also, all new Sport KISS units are now being shipped with black pods, with the R22D sensor housing. Divers will have a choice of our original Jetsam display, in either a triple or dual with VR cable; or the C2R pendent, with monitoring system options.

I hope to email you all again in the next week or so with information on other changes that we have made to both the Sport and Classic units. Until then, please feel free to email or call me with any questions. I would love to hear from you!!

All the best,

Kim Smith

Re: Sport KISS upgrades

Whats the main gain with this?

Better sensor life?

Is the R22 a better and more reliable sensor than the K1D?

Re: Sport KISS upgrades

Hi Anders,

Yes, the R22D sensor has a much longer sensor life. From the teledyne website, the expected life from a R22D sensor is 36 months and the K1D is 15 months. This is at 25C and 50% RH. For diving, as we know, the sensors dont last as long. Most people get close to 2 years on the R22D sensors. Few people get 1 year from the K1D sensors. And the cost of these sensors is pretty much the same. Multiply that cost by 3 sensors, and it adds up. From diving both, the R22D sensor has a faster reaction time also.

Hope this helps!!

Yes to what? There were 3 questions. One of them couldn't be answered by yes or no. As for my own experience I've had both AI and Teledyne K1D's which worked for an average of some 13 months. With 2 of 11 months and 1 now 18 months lifespan is probably indeed longer. But what about reliability? I haven't heard about cells being dead on arrival. Falling apart or limited in the first few months. If the new cells are more reliable (and I have no data for that) then I'll accept the higher total cost of ownership for the old celltype. Are there bad experiences with the old type apart from not always lasting a full year?

Re: Sport KISS upgrades

A great improvement IMHO. Now if Jetsam would only come out with a HUD!!

Re: Sport KISS upgrades

HUD's just make you stop looking at your multiple hansets. When the HUD mis-indicates you die. IMHO a HUD strays away from the KISS principle as it requires a microcontroller (or programmable hw). I can understand that some want them but relying on a HUD got a few of us rebreather divers us in trouble allready. Eg. because you couldn't see it in bright light or because of being used to the red blinking light in the swimming pool. If you want one there are plenty of them you can get from other suppliers. Just make sure that flooding your HUD doesn't screw up the readings on your handsets...

I second that. I have a HUD on my units and I have to remind myself that I need to check my handsets, especially when busy. Hopefully I dived my CK lots of time without a HUD, so the "check handset" muscle memory is there. But for those who get the rig with the HUD from start....
Best
