![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather I know I'm probably in the minority but I can't be bothered with a rebreather in the shallows. Apart from the cost of lime, O2 and cell time outweighing the cost of an air or even nitrox fill, I similarly can't be bothered with schlepping all that kit around (I won't dive a Rebreather without bailout deeper than I can keep the loop on pure O2) and I'm too lazy to waste brain power on diving it where I'm not getting any advantage. Maybe I'm just over-conservative but for me on a rebreather there is no real let up in either mental or physical load on a shallow dive as there is on something deeper. Apart from the deco obligation then you need to put the same amount of effort into your dive regardless of the depth on CCR. I'm not too worried about losing skills by missing the odd dive, in reality I usually end up sitting out shallow dives or going somewhere else. Cheers, Stuart

![]() ![]() | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather I do dives above 60fsw all the time. I actually find them more challenging in some sense; buoyancy and trim have to be perfect, and keeping your set point is more difficult, imho. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather There many good arguments along the line of... right tool for the job...and CCR is an appropriate one for shallow dives...CCR more dangerous than OC... These are technically correct statements, but I CCR every dive, and I will continue to do so. ![]() |

If I ever reach the stage where I think this is not necessary I have a set of twin 7s in the shead for 30m stuff. Some people love CCR and love diving them. Fine by me but I never got that bug. To me they are just a tool to overcome the cost and logistics problems of the diving i normally do. Every time I do a shallow OC dive I think to my self wow this is great. Easy buoyancy control minimal drag, virtually no equipment issues and total confidence in what your breathing. Then every time i pull off a 50-80mdive for three hours on a CCR i think to my self, wow this is great. £15 for gas and lime, warm moist gas, limitless supply to overcome problems at depth, zero logistical problems with regard to equipment and gas fills, no depth limitations, shallow or deep doesn't matter. Conversly I just don't get in the water often enough to keep bang on familier with two sets of gear. To a measure every dive does something for me in terms of retraining so I want consistant kit.I even leave the 18/40 in it at 5 meters. The only time I deviate from that is to dive the IDA but then, I never said I was sane.
