![]() | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather My last 4 dives have been shore dives to less than 6m (oh where did those heady depth junky days go), each for about an hour and a half, in cool water of around 10 degrees C (here's the reason-) taking photos. The rebreather keeps the body temperature up* (reduces the rate of cooling) , no bubbles in the way of the camera, nice long dives with no worries of dive time being curtailed by running low on gas... It works. Still carrying a small bailout (5ltr) - it's a bit of a pain-ITA to be honest and some may argue not necessary so shallow, but with no boat cover I'm happier with it to cover any unforetold swim to shore. As for cost of gas vs. absorbent, O2, cell life... ahh it's a big toy, why not take it out? In this case to be honest, it's a bit of dosh for the sake of a little more warmth. Cheers & have a good Christmas, J. Last edited by Jonathan : 21st December 2007 at 15:20. |

I just couldn't get my fill of diving on OC, especially on extended remote trips where getting air fills and lugging all those tanks becomes prohibitive.

Nothing beats a gas miser Rebreather. Even with your own compressor or booster, there is so much less effort. No endless blending into the night, or driving all over creation to get a fill. Plus, there are all manner of options for transfilling from bailout supply to get more hours, again without HD equipment, or sacrificing safety on bailout. |

| Going Down? ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather Hell, I did 48 min at 5' last weekend in a pool. I was even using 21/35. Same rig every time with the same gas (until I get more training )

| Respect the Classics! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Shallow Dive on a rebreather Chiming in kind of late but that is why some people have more than one Rebreather. We like to use pure O2 rigs* with an oxygage here for shallow dives 10-30ft. Very small compared to OC expecially nice when doing beach dives. * One of our popular units is a Draeger Ray ($600 bucks) with a blocked dosage nossle and a 13cf tank of O2. Diving for lobster a month ago from my Zodiac I thought I would save time/hassle and dive OC. Found that I had to end my dive before I wanted to due to running out of air. That never happens on a Rebreather. Of course you probably know that diving a Dolphin. --SB |
