![]() ![]() | Re: Travel outside USA Joel, The thing to remember is that TSA has its rules and the airlines have theirs. The two do not necessarily coincide. So pack you bags according to TSA, don't call attention to them, they will get the TSA approval and you will be set. I have not yet traveled with sorb, always bought on the other side, but tanks and Rebreather have not been a problem. I was with a friend once who took his Meg in a backpack without any issue from TSA inspectors. Jerry |

![]() | Re: Travel outside USA I'm about to take my KISS to Costa Rica for some weenie diving. This is my op to strip it down to 13s, no stand etc and dive with a wetsuit. But........ before i head out I wanted to get a feel from you folks on the best way to travel with this little wonder. Joel, as you know I travel with CCR groups all over the world...just bring your MSDS..or Material Safety Data Sheet...all the absorbant companies that you and I deal with have them put copies of it in your bag with your sorb and you'll have know problemosWhat papers are you carrying for Sorb ? Are you carring the unit on in pieces or checking it through ? I understand about cylinders etc. In the past I would just ship harware like this but I would prefer to just take it with me. Any help is appreciated. Cheers

The lung case, my Naked@90 stand, (cant go without that) wing, pack, fins, all the rest of the junk are in one gear bag (48 lbs) The bottles, valves, and 2 small jugs of 408 (yes factory sealed) will go in another bag with clothes and stuff ..... (48 lbs) All the rest of the crap i need is in my backpack (personal bag). I have MSDS sheets for eveything, phone #s for TSA on it too. Let's see what happens when i get out of here on Saturday. Thanks guys. JDS

You won't have any issues....I've taken hundreds of CCR divers from indonesia, China, Pilippines, Micronesia, Costa Rica, all through the carribean and australia and no problems.

Sorb got through no problem --- bottles no problem -- weight sucks -- im gonna convert some wrap oxygen bottles to drop the weight even a few lbs. The dive operation here is typical caribbean -- clueless -- I went to the "fill shack" filled my little 14s with air and then the hunt for an oxgen connector. When they told me they used med grade to mix oxygen i made the STOOPID assumption that they actually knew how to handle oxygen and had connections. They run a stick through a big ass mako. So..... of course i did not bring my oxygen stuff ....wont do that again -- I rummaged through the fill shack, found a scuba fill conector and fortunatley i had a CGA 540 nipple and nut in my computer bag.... oddly i had some teflon tape too -- so with some nasty ass monkey wrench i made an oxygen to scuba transfill connector -- (I had my din to scuba block with me) So with NO needle valve and NO gauge i filled my oxygen bottle - and low and behold --- i did not blow up the resort....... Balance -- instead of a plate I took my APEKS WTX harness with weight pockets and WTX30 lbs wing .... it trimmed the KISS out better with the longer wing (and NakedStand) (im using Alum 14s .) i am using an alum 50 cuft bottle for bail out here, and that's working ok -- I still cant get my ass up so will work on that tomorrow ......... That's it for now. Cheers JDS

Unless they've done "tech" diving before and have a history of dealing with "tech" divers, I would assume they have no idea about handling O2. The more I travel, the less I trust people to know what they are talking about, unless they have very recent, particular knowledge. And so I hate it when my father appears worldly-"if you want something done right..." -Andy |

The dive guys haul my breather on the boat -- they all like to follow me underwater cause i get all the critters to come play. The kiss is a ROCK -- 5mill wet suit in salt water With two Alum 14s and i am wearing NO weight -- finally got the buoyancy dialed in (i got rid of the weight!) Mine should me making its first international trek in a couple of weeks, Cozumel on the 18th. Got a shop that will supply me with an 80 of O2, bringing along my booster and sorb, and they'll supply an aluminum 50 for bailout. I wouldnt waste the time dragging a booster. Use the lowest pressure cylinder you can the LP-14s are best -- im getting transfils in the 1800 psi range. Since most of my dives are 120fsw and shallower im filling my dil with a little nitrox to make up for the lower oxygen fills. If you are hellbent on taking your booster I would first find out how long a dive you can do with the dive op you are going with. If you are going to be limited to 1 hour dives at best you will get in 2 a day -- even starting out with 10 cuft of O2 will be plenty for a days diving. Cheers JDS |
