Hello from South FLA

While I don't own a Rebreather yet I'm seriously considering the switch shortly after the first of the year. I'm currently looking at the Meg so any information you think I should know before taking the bubbleless plung would be greatly appreciated.

Scott

Re: Hello from South FLA

Welcome aboard Scott. There is a wealth of information here for you to look at regarding rebreathers.

One thing that would be nice would be more information about what type of diving you would like to do with a rebreather.

If you ask specific questions, it is guaranteed that you will get answeres from the great people on this board.

I myself dive a KISS Classic Manual CCR. You might want to check out the new COPIS Meg if you are going the Meg direction. There is a nice article just out in Advanced Diver Magazine about that unit.

Have fun and welcome to the dark side .

I picked up a copy if ADM at DEMA this year and have read the artical on the COPIS. Since I'm still learning I'm not sure exactly how a manual Rebreather works and how difficult it is to fly compaired to an ECCR. Sounds like it may be a cheaper way to go but may require more concentration and discipline to fly it safely.

I enjoy deep wreck diving and have been OC Trimix certified for nearly 2 years now. Gas prices are getting expensive and OC is such a waste that it only makes sense to go with a Rebreather if I'm going to continue the rought.

I'm planning on attending the South FLorida Dive Show this weekend. If it's anything like it was last year it's going to be mostly a tech dive show so I'll have a chance to ask lots of questions and hopefully get a few answers.

Thanks for the information guys.

Re: Hello from South FLA

Not sure how often they are happening (hint, hint, Curt), but the ADM live presentations and try-outs were very helpful when I was where you are now. Keep an eye out for them.

I'll likely be passing by the show at least for a day. However, I don't think I will have my Optima with me, and I don't know if there will be one on the floor this year.

Yes and no. Yes in that I will be less likely to kill myself because I'll be paying closer attention to what's going on but no in the fact that I'll be watching the display so closely that I won't see anything else during the dive.

Re: Hello from South FLA

Welcome Scott
I dive the Mini Copis Meg. Ron Micjan designed the head and I have been diving it for about year and a half, and now it is in full production from ISC. I just love it and it is a dream to dive. Just waiting for the hud to come out.
Again Welcome to Rebreather World

That does not seem to be the case with most people that dive a constant flow manual rebreather.

I know lots of divers and myself that dive KISS rebreathers that get to enjoy the dive just like anyone else with a reasonable amount of time spent managaging the dive.

When you are on an ECCR you must also monitor your PO2.

Adding a HUD is a great addition in both types of rebreathers and helps bring awarness to PO2 issues.

Please, don't believe for a minute that an ECCR relieves you from monitoring what is going on.
