Excited oc diver awaiting Vision + course with Martin Robson

Hello All

I've just booked my inspiration Vision + course with Martin Robson and am vv excited about the whole thing. Also managed to get it booked just before the dive show so hopefully the wait won't be quite so long. Anyone got any good tips on gloves to keep you warm on MOD 1 courses at Stony Cove in Jan to Feb?

Looking forward to hearing from you all

John

Hi,
I did my Kiss classic with Martin in Stoney at about this time in '05, and it was 'kin cold (2-3 deg C)
You'll be doing 2 x 1 Hour dives/day.
Martin had dry gloves, I've never used them, but they look a bit bulky, so if you are going to give them a whirl, and have never used them before, I'd have a couple of dives with them beforehand.

Dry gloves ROCK!! I would greatly suggest that you give them a shot and get a couple dives on them as mentioned.

btw... Tell Martin I say hi... He did my CCR Cave instruction back in Feb at Ginnie.

I replaced my dry gloves with Poseidon 3 finger mits, I reckon these are warmer.

Interesting. I have three finger mits but am concerned that they won't give me the dexterity in cold water to fully manipulate the Vision wrist mounted computer?

Congrats, i think you will love the vision...on occasion it has it's quirks but for the most part is a dream to dive. ...and dry gloves are pretty awsome, but at the same time, depending on how much cold water diving you do, you are already going to be so much warmer on the loop that it just might not be necessary.

Re: Excited oc diver awaiting Vision + course with Martin Robson

You've picked a great instructor in Martin - he never taught me, but I've seen him diving and he's a seriously switched-on guy, great rep too. You're going to work very hard for that cert, and be a better diver for it.
As regards the gloves, I'd go with decent mitts. I've persevered with dry gloves over the years and they are a pain in the backside. First of all, getting them on, then getting the right amount of air into them so they'll still be warm at depth without being totally unmanageable at the surface. God help you if the seals go and they get wet. Arrrggghhh.
In my own personal experience (and this is tinternet, so my advice can be described as either good or total bollocks), I've found the mitts to be luuuurvely. Got some O'Three 5mm jobs, have no problem poking the buttons on my ancient old shed of an Inspo and they're plenty warm. Didn't believe the original reports on how good the mitts are, but having tried them I'm a life-long convert.
