Hello from NC

Good day. First my compliments on a great site and lots of "useful" information. I am currently a OC diver and would like to start diving SCR in the upcoming year. I am thinking of starting with a Dolphin or Ray for the budget I have available and welcome any recommendations, warnings, or suggestions anyone has on buying a used Dolphin or Ray.

Cheers,

Jeff

Re: Hello from NC

If you are going to go the SCR route, I would definately go the Dolphin route instead of the Ray. The Dolphin is much more flexible and robust that the Ray. You can also probably find a greater variety of Dolphins out there to choose from, since there were a lot more sold in the USA.

If it's just price thats pushing you to SCR why don't you get a Sport Kiss? It's close in price and you will have a CCR to start with.

There even is a Sport Kiss on sale on Rebreather World right now (Decoweenie is selling his).

I owned both Dolphin and a Sport Kiss and the Sport Kiss is a really nice little unit - that gives you much more than the SCR Dolphin.

Re: Hello from NC

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. I am going to look into the Sport Kiss and try to find an instructor in my area (NC-USA). Thanks for the heads-up on the unit for sale in UAE, I have contact Decoweenie and am awaiting a response.

I think I will do the Dolphin training (it is only 250.00 including the Dolphin rental in my area), but have come to the conclusion that I should hold out and save for CCR (especially since the Sport Kiss is so affordable).

I hope to be starting my Rebreather training soon and appreciate the guidance.

Cheers,

Jeff

Re: Hello from NC

Jeff,
If you would like an in-expensive entry into SCRs I have an old (1996) model Atlanits that I would sell for $500. It has not been dove since 2000 and is in need of a complete overhall before being used. It's just collecting dust now...
