V Planner questions

Hello I recently purchased the latest version of V planner. Have some questions which will probably sound silly to experienced users of the software. Trying to calculate a dive where the set points for my deco stop are 1.0 – different from the set point at depth of 1.3. If you have the time, please see below for my procedure and questions. Thank you.

Went into V Planner and performed the following:
1) Inputted Surface Interval (2.30 hours – just get the program to work)
2) Selected: CCR; Inputted starting setpoint: 1.3;
3) Clicked config: Add Level dil set point
4) Inputted the following in this box: Add or Edit Mix: Depth: 140; Time: 35; O2: 21; HE: 0; Set point: 1.3; Note: assumed my diluent is 21%. No He.
5) Clicked Config. Selected the following dive parameters: (feet), stop times (1 min), water (salt), ATM (CCR set points)

Conditions/ deco stop:
20 foot deep (guess this is driven by Last Stop Depth, but not sure why I need to check it).
30 sec deep (clicking this does?)
Stop size (10),
Last stop depth: open (20), CCR (20)

Deco mix depths: up to 28% inputted (1.0), 28…45 inputted (1.0), 45..99 inputted (1.0), What does inputting here do (such as 1.0)? Didn’t give me a PO2 of 1.0 for my deco stops.

RMV Conservatism (nominal), Dive elevation (0), VPM model (VPM B) [though I didn’t notice a difference when just using the VPM]; Ascent Rate (assumed 30 feet).

6) Hit OK

7) Hit CALC

Gave 58 minute run time but assumed set point is 1.3 for entire dive including deco stops. Want to have set point of 1.0 for above 50 feet.

So I went back to [Add a level or mix] and inputted D: 50, T: 1, 02: 21, Set Point: 1.0. Hit CALC. Now all my deco stops started at 50 ft and set point was 1.0. Run time = 62 min.

B) If I wanted to create a set of bailout tables assuming OC – what is the quickest way to do so? I did the following:
1) ADD DECO – created a deco gas of 21%, my assumed bailout gas.
2) Deleted the 50, 21, 1.0
3) Hit CALC and received a run time of 93 minutes.
Thank you.

Re: V Planner questions

Here's how I do it--others may vary.

If I'm planning to dive to 140 for 35 min.

Set surface interval to 24hr (or as appropriate)
I leave the starting setpoint field at 0.4. I click "Add Level, diluent, set point" and fill in depth of 140, time of 35, oxygen at 21, helium at 0 and setpoint at 1.3. Click OK. Then go back to the main window and click "Calc." (Note that I have V-planner set to give the last stop at 20 feet)

I get the following:

DIVE PLAN
Surface interval = 1 day 0 hr 0 min.
Elevation = 0ft
Conservatism = + 2

Dec to 140ft (2) Diluent Air 0.40 SetPoint, 50ft/min descent.
Level 140ft 32:12 (35) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 132ft ead
Asc to 70ft (37) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, -30ft/min ascent.
Stop at 70ft 0:40 (38) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 43ft ead
Stop at 60ft 1:00 (39) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 30ft ead
Stop at 50ft 2:00 (41) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 18ft ead
Stop at 40ft 3:00 (44) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 5ft ead
Stop at 30ft 4:00 (48) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 0ft ead
Stop at 20ft 15:00 (63) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 0ft ead
Surface (63) Diluent Air -30ft/min ascent.

Off gassing starts at 94.6ft

OTU's this dive: 90
CNS Total: 34.1%

DIVE PLAN COMPLETE

Now then, if you wanted to plan for OC bailout at 140 feet, 35 min into the dive, add a second level with the "Add level, diluent, set point" button. On this new level fill in depth at 140, time as 0, oxygen at 21, helium at 0, select the "OC" checkbox, and then click OK. When I hit "Calc" I get the following:

DIVE PLAN
Surface interval = 1 day 0 hr 0 min.
Elevation = 0ft
Conservatism = + 2

Dec to 140ft (2) Diluent Air 0.40 SetPoint, 50ft/min descent.
Level 140ft 32:12 (35) Diluent Air 1.30 SetPoint, 132ft ead
Asc to 70ft (37) Air -30ft/min ascent.
Stop at 70ft 1:40 (39) Air 0.65 ppO2, 70ft ead
Stop at 60ft 3:00 (42) Air 0.59 ppO2, 60ft ead
Stop at 50ft 5:00 (47) Air 0.53 ppO2, 50ft ead
Stop at 40ft 6:00 (53) Air 0.46 ppO2, 40ft ead
Stop at 30ft 10:00 (63) Air 0.40 ppO2, 30ft ead
Stop at 20ft 58:00 (121) Air 0.34 ppO2, 20ft ead
Surface (121) Air -30ft/min ascent.

Off gassing starts at 97.2ft

OTU's this dive: 51
CNS Total: 20.0%

81.2 cu ft Air
81.2 cu ft OC TOTAL

DIVE PLAN COMPLETE

Of course if you wanted to assume that you bailed out at 50 feet on the way up, you could simply change the depth field for your second level. Hope that's helpful.

Re: V Planner questions

That's how I do it. If planning on a change in set point during ascent, you can do the same thing by adding a closed circuit level and setpoint. V-Planner will keep that set point from that point forward in the dive or until you put in the next level.

Hello, A lot of this is covered in the Help file included with the program - press F1 for samples.

To change the set point only, (or mix only), without an actual stop or level, enter a new leg (level) with a time of 0 (zero). This then tells the program to make a change in setpt, etc without stopping there.

2) Selected: CCR; Inputted starting setpoint: 1.3;
This represents your "leaving the surface value" normally between 0.21 and 1.00, typically 0.7

Controls your OC deco mixes selection depth. The program will select your OC deco mixes based on these ppO2 values you selected here. Depths can be overridden in the front OC deco column with a specific depth.

...Want to have set point of 1.0 for above 50 feet.
Enter these two below into the left column - nothing selected in OC deco column.
Code:
140, 35, 21, 1.3
50, 0, 21, 1.0
