Talking Hello all from New Zealand

Hi there everbody, this is my first post after many months studying rebreathers from afar and Im hooked well and truly.I have a very long journey ahead of me.
I have started a homebuild unit ,and I find its all I can think about,
I spend hours walking around hardware shops ,picking up items ,with no intention of using it for its designed purpose! Is this normal?
My garage table is filling with bits and pieces, cuts of rubbers, pvc, tubing, bcd parts..!
Oh well ..Im happy as a pig in sh#t !
Would love to here from any local builders.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Hello all from New Zealand

HI nicka

Sounds completely normal for me, having heaps of odd bits and pieces lying around of which 90 % never make it into the water. Welcome to Rebreatherworld and welcome to your own very special homebuilder's hell.
I just finished my list of spares I have to fetch from Home Depot tomorrow morning......

Cheers

Jens

BTW: Where in NZ are you located? I may come over in January for a few days. Perhaps we can have a dive (or beer) or two together?

Re: Hello all from New Zealand

Welcome Nicka,

Wish you many homebuild adventures, and after many designs, many dives.
Remember to couch dive them first, then the garden (i tend to ignore the neighbours comments) and then somebody babysitting you U/W...

In the end it's very rewarding to build something with your own hands that keeps you alive!

Denz.

Re: Hello all from New Zealand

Hi Nick, recently back from NZ where the diving finally pushed me over the edge to join team yellow

Where abouts are you? There are a few other kiwis on the board including a guy i was diving with up north on a converted dolphin who I'm sure would give you some helpful hints if you're in the same neck of the woods.

Hey Nicka

I have to own up, I'm the one Mary is referring to. Why am I not surprised she opted for a comercial unit after diving with me for 6 months!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the homebuilding process. It certainly can have its share of frustration too. The good news it it all becomes worth while when the system finally gets to the point where it is actually divable.

Drop me a line if you've got any questions. I may well have some bits and pieces around from my homebuild 'breather projects you'll find handy.

Yep. Not been diving much though. Anyone got some diving work for a disillusioned junior doctor?
