![]() ![]() | Hello from Bergen Hi, Been diving since I turned 16 in 1992, I learned to dive in the UK & then moved to Norway in 2002. I'm a member of Bergen Uni's dive club. (Despite never being a student here!) I have the normal sort of plastic card collection from IANTD, TDI, CMAS and the BS-AC. Never been on a course that didn't teach me something, don't ever expect to stop learning. I've been seriously considering going CCR since 2003, but only committed this week. I'm going the second hand inspo route, the classic seems to suit my requirements (Lets just say, I'll never dive beyond the unit's specs!!) and 2.5k seems a more acceptable price for me. I have 2 potential units to buy next week, and will follow my instructors wisdom on which to get. I've decided on CCR as the gas logistics on Open Circuit are getting stupid, and mixing gas several evenings a week is really starting to piss me & the family off. Saying that, being dead won't cheer them up either, so I intend to take this one step at a time! During the past 12 months I have been fairly regualy diving Trimix in the 60M range. for the wrecks we have, 70M is the maximum I intend to dive, and I hope after some years hard work, I will be able to use CCR in order to achieve that. The problem we have is for a nice long weekend trip, the number of J's we need is starting to get silly. I feel if I want to keep doing these wrecks, I can't be bothered with all the filling! Three of my local buddies are on Classics, and I feel I have a community of divers in town who I can rely on to help me in my progression. I'm a naturaly cautious bloke. I'm told by friends that I have the "Right outlook" for staying alive on CCR. This doesn't prevent me from being quite prepared for the initial "Oh crap, I can't do this" wall, and have mentally committed myself to the challanges ahead! Back to being the novice! I recognise a few names from the boards, and over the years I've dived with a fair number of different people in the UK and here in Norway. Maybe some of you remember the English bloke in Bergen? If not, well here I am! Be gentle, I'm a n00b!! ![]() |

(And empty my wallet!) But isn't that why, after 14 years of solid diving, the sport is so addictive? You can never stop learning, and there is always more to find out! But I think it's important to know your own limits. My diving can be safely done on open circuit, but the logistics are the problem. CCR is just a tool to help me get on the wrecks and enjoy my bottom time. It just takes a bit of comitment(!) to accept that the overall goal is worth going back to basics and starting over. M. |

If you are going CCR route, why would you go with an organization as well that does not want to have anything to do with CCR? /Jonny

I have dived a lot with GUE trained divers over here, and for 60m mix diving they have a great system. There are various parts of this system that I am unsure of, and other parts I like the look of. Either way, in my mind taking the course will allow me to better understand a system that many of friends are diving to. M. |

Theres something to be learned from everyone and as they say "a closed mind gathers no knowledge". Theres a lot of good aspects in the GUE way of doing stuff that will make you think and evaluate carefully what you're doing with CCR and with the fundies course 90% of the skillset is common. /Z
