![]() ![]() | New User in California! Hi! My name is Rob and I live in the Sacramento region of California. I have been interested in rebreathers since the mid 90's and have been reading and researching them ever since. I'm an PADI AOW diver with some Nitrox experience and have been diving for around 5 years now. My interest jumped from academic to "dangerous" when I found "Dr. Bob's CEDU" site and found out how simple it was to create a shallow water manually operated CCR. Since then I've read all I could find, gathered various bits info from Navy Dive sources, online DIY sites, Aussie Rebreather groups, IANTD dive tables, to simply studying various designs out on the market. I've even started a small collection of Rb's which I have disassembled and toyed with the inner workings. Thus far I must say I am in love with the durability and elegant simplicity of the KISS concept and am in the process of gathering parts to build a swimming pool only chest mounted O2 CCR. I hope to share what little information I've gleaned over the years and I sincerely look forward to seeing what other folks have done as well. Sincerely, Rob |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: New User in California! Rob, Well, "Whoizrob", I iz Rob as well. Welcome aboard Rebreather World. I see that you have gotten into rebreather diving by falling under the spell of that evil genius, Dr. Bob Ianello, of the "Crestline Experimental Diving Unit". I do feel sorry for you. Your condition cannot be cured! We have a great DIY Rebreather group here, and I am sure that they will be happy to welcome you into the ranks. After all, it takes a special sort of person (and heavy ingestion of Jimson Weed) to walk into the local hardware store and see rebreathers dancing everywhere!! Again, welcome aboard! ![]() ![]() | Hehehe... Dave Sutton is my hero =) In any case, having played with all the different types of scrubbers and considering the building/machining issues associated with different designs I am pretty sure my design will be pretty similar to Dr. Bobs "clearview" Rebreather. some minor differences will be that I am using an older horseshoe collar BC as my exhale only side counterlung, I'll be using a precision orfice for CMF with a DS4 and a drysuit inflator valve as the O2 bypass. I'll be running dual homebuilt PPO2 meters which I hope to pot rather than build a housing for (trim pots will be remotely mounted in cannister). Dil addition will be accomplished via the BC inflator. All the ideas are there and the aquisition of parts is 50% there. Hopefully the first couch session will take place before the year is up =) Rob |
