| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: hello from The Ice! Wow, what a response, thanks guys I managed to dig up a few exemplary shots of my Dolphin under pack ice (see below). In the meantime I have found some interesting links also for the topic "Rebreathers in the Antarctic"; it appears that Wes Stiles and Jill Heinerth (yeah, the "Cave" people...) of Karst Productions launched an ice diving expedition to one of the huge icebergs of the Ross Sea. Check it out at: http://karstproductions.com/ (at bottom of the page) There is also a nice write-up on National Geographic at: http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/n...0011201.2.html as well as an interview about that with Jill Heinerth on Bottom Time Radio: http://www.podcastdirectory.com/podc...x.php?iid=1810 |

Hi NeilSeriously - PM me with any tips Neil I wish I had any job offers or contact tips that I could PM you. Unfortunately, it is not that easy so I decided (for the sake of the other guys who might wonder) to post my comments here: there are basically three options to go to Antarctica (diving or non-diving): • scientific expeditions/station personnel • tourist cruises/expeditions • nature photography/cinematography (freelance/dedicated expedition) I will leave out the option "being insanely rich and having access to your own icebreaking vessel" since if you fall into that category, you wouldn't ask ;-) Just to prove my point that this IS actually a reality and option for some, check out this link: http://www.charterworld.com/?sub=yac...acht-giant-296 As far as I am concerned, I managed to get a foot in the door with two of the three options mentioned above, i.e. scientific (diving) expeditions as well as tourist (diving) cruises and expeditions. I also met over the course of the years some guys who make a living shooting footage for National Geographic and others. From what I know, the hard part is to get there one way or another, and to get there with a diving option. As soon as that is secured, you can spend the rest of your time convincing everyone that diving with a Rebreather is WAY better and FAR superior to OC diving, ESPECIALLY in polar waters... But this part I guess you will find comes naturally... ![]() |

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: hello from The Ice! Hi from the Sun We don't get a lot of ice here on the east coast of Africa - only when I open the fridge. Anyway welcome and love the picture of a leopard seal ! As a CCR I would think it would perform even better that SCR less heat loss. Cheers
