![]() | Newbe rebreather is a sailboat cruiser I am a PADI certified divemaster and have numerous different certs. I am Nitrox certified and have done a few nitrox dives. I also have two Nitrox computers. I have been looking at a few rebreather websites and am very interested in getting one when I am done doing this contract up here in Canada. My boat is located in Dana Point California. I see that the Megalodon is very popular with the cave divers but really see a lot of excitement on the new Evolution. My background is in nuclear power plant maintenance and redundant backup systems are the norm for important to safety systems. I don’t plan on becoming a full fledged cave diver because there are too many different types of diving for me to just focus on one. I do like the electronic controls and displays that the Evolution provides. I wouldn’t need to stay down for the duration times allowed by using the Megalodon. I do plan on doing some cruising on my sailboat and would probably carry several spare bottles for various dives. Do you guys have any insight into the best rebreather for a guy cruising around on a sailboat? |

Hi Stefan,![]() Nice ride, I fancy the new 440. ![]() at the Paris Nautique salon i had a look into the Lagoon 440, it is just huuuuge, but i do not like the upper-level steering deck. One of the big plus of a cat in my opinion s that you live and steer on "the same floor". In Monohulls it is always like "going down into the basement" So with the 440 it is hard to overlook the starboard aft section and also you have to climb stairs, i am too lazy for that Currently there is is no compressor on the boat, but i have a 4-stroke Honda engine for my Bauer Oceanus Michael |

Smallest day sailer I liked was 46 ft and for anything more than day 56 ft ... But those were quite nice. ![]() Quote: Currently there is is no compressor on the boat, but i have a 4-stroke Honda engine for my Bauer Oceanus Is she yours? Just about any rebreather will work from a boat, CCRs probably get the nod due to having smaller tanks and being more gas efficient. As I asume you don't have a compressor onboard the smaller tanks will be easier to store. Another consideration will be the sorb, you'll have to refill the scrubber. That may give the O2ptima an edge as that process is very easy and considerably cleaner than granular absorbant. The cartridges are individually wrapped and canned and should be easy store as well. There are plenty of threads about the pros and cons, but for a small boat application in the US where they are fairly easily available they should be worth consideration. Did I just say that? ![]() |
