![]() | A new Meg in NYC Hello everyone. I just purchased two megs used in the movie The Cave. I was certified as an Inspiration/Evolution diver in April of '05 and did a crossover with Jill Heinerth in January. My unit is down in the Dominican Republic and I have about 10 dives on it. As the Technical Training Director of a new 5 Star TDI Facility called Pirate's Cove Dive Resort & Spa, I get to go down to DR all the time. I'll be down there in April and again for our rebreather week from April 25 - May 1. As you see I'm really from NYC and I crew on the John Jack out of Staten Island. My meg will be up here for the entire season. I'm hoping to get enough dives on the meg to eventually start using it for deeper local dives - Doria, Norness, U-Who, Carolina etc. As a NE Wrecker, the first thing I did was modify the rig. I hated diving with HP 100s or LP95s in the old days so I purchased longer HP120s. My ass must be on the dressing table with my tanks firmly sitting on the table as well. I'm tired of getting thrown off the table in high seas while leaning back with short tanks. The meg canister is too short so I added an extention tube. See photo. The tube was OK but I needed something that could support the meg on its own. I wanted to let it stand proundly in rough seas. I also wanted a place to attach lift bags, argon bottle and other accessories. My buddy, Tom, designed the Stainless Steel Meg Rack. See photos. I dove with both adaptors in DR and found them a little butt heavy. We are making an aluminum version for warm water. I'm sure the stainless will be great for NE waters. I'll keep you posted . . . |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: A new Meg in NYC Just for reference, weren't the "movie megs" a slightly smaller / shorter cannister than standard, as I understand, somewhere inbetween the standard meg and the mini meg??? Nice looking stand by the way, but just curious as to wether its necessary / would fit a normal meg...

![]() | Re: A new Meg in NYC Paul, The MegRack is smaller than the foot print of double HP120s. Tom and I will be down there for rebreather week. Tom is taking a meg class with Bill Oestreich. Do you know anyone who would like to take the class with him? We have a few spots. The movie meg is smaller than a standard and larger than the mini. The MegRack could accomodate any size canister. See you at BTS!! We have 2 booths. |

![]() | Re: A new Meg in NYC It hasn't been up north yet but I'm sure with a few bungies it'll hold tight. Tom is now working on an aluminum one. I can't wait to get back in the water. |

| Staying Silent! Mostly... Current Rebreather/s: | Re: A new Meg in NYC If you're after an aluminium version then John Routley (Narked at 90) has already produced a similar stand that fits both the Meg & the Kiss Classic Details can be found in these threads/posts http://www.rebreatherworld.com/33883-post8.html and here http://www.rebreatherworld.com/gener...ight=meg+stand I know Curt McNamee (Silentscuba) bought a batch from John so may well be able to ship one anywhere in the U.S fairly quick (If he still has any left ).Neil

![]() | Re: A new Meg in NYC The MegRack is much more robust and taller. I originally wanted a canister adaptor so the set up would be as tall as HP120s. I would be thrown off the dressing table during rough seas with a short set up. He does make nice stuff and he has a cool website. |

| In my own little world ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | hi NYC i have been pointed to your introduction thread, i first i would like to say HI and welcome to rebreather world, thats a nice bit of work you've had done, if you don't mind I'll like to add some comments to help you along with your project, and please i don't want to teach you how to suck eggs so you can tell me to butt out. using steel makes it very very hard to trim out this is why i used aluminium and waisted a lot of material from the stand to get the balance point around the bottom of the spine, this is very important or you trim is messed up and if your going to try and sell your stand people don't want to be messing around to much unless they have to. and you may want to look at the snag hazards on the stand as there may be a big problem there.. kindest regards john routley www.narkedat90.co.uk
