Hello from So. Cal

I've been an open water diver for about eight years, and am cerified up to Deco from 150fsw from TDI. I'm doing research into rebreathers, and plan to train for and buy one in about a year.

My motivation is bottom time, simplicity (I cant stand wearing stage bottles) and quiet. I do a lot of ocean cleanup work, and I'd like to get more work done on the deeper wrecks. Then, photography.

I'm a computer geek by day, so I distrust computers totally, which I thought meant semi-closed only, but the KISS Classic looks awfully good!

It looks like this site is going to be a great resource!

Welcome Eric. If you distrust computers the Jetsams should fit your bill.
If you keep busy UW adding a HUD may be worth considering.
Have a look in the library about a Classic Kiss with a HUD installed.

Hi Erik, a ccr is a great diving tool, but beware you will still need to pack at least one "stage" aka bailout bottle. the deeper you go and the more deco you incur the more bailout gases you will need.
but that being said it is still a heck of a lot less gear and less heavy gear anyway.
you have lots of resources for all kinds of units. the board here is great for information and also you can contact me about kiss info or alan studly (he is in CA) and a great guy too.
My favorite unit is the KISS due to its simplicity / reliability and the ability for the user (owner) to completely field repair the unit (assuming you have back up parts of course). the inspiration and meg are other great units too. it just depends on what you are looking to do. but don't shy away from the kiss if you are a deep trimix diver. the unit operates extremely well in these conditions too. there seems to be some mis-information out there about the kiss and deep trimix (of course not violating the manufacture recommended max depths )

Yes, and I always wear my 13cft pony when diving solo (TDI solo certified too) or deeper than ~60fsw. That's a far cry from the two steel 80cft stage bottles I trained on for deco. It's that I'm trying to avoid.
