Show him that your safe, and there should be no issue. The more of us that show safe conduct, the more accepted we will be. Thanks for the info. I was on the periphery of a conversation at BTS where a couple of divers (didn't know them so couldn't say how reliable the info was) were saying the Outlaw wouldn't allow RBs at all. One seemed kind of bitter about it, could have been the one with the problem.Onetime, My class is schedule for mid June. My guess is that late June early July, I'm going to spend a lot of time at Dutch. PM you then. I checked with Mo (from NJ Scuba Divers message board) about it since she's on there a lot and she hadn't heard any issues about Rebreather's. I just hate to see unverified rumors going around. Unsold spots on boats hurt everyone and I'd hate to see a dive boat and divers missing out on opportunities to dive when they don't have to. I live only about 40 minutes from Dutch so I can almost always be convinced to do some diving there. Plus I'm always tinkering with different things and it gives me an opportunity to test things out in a confined environment. |

Got my unit and all the extra bits I need, except for a few hoses I'm going to swap out for different lengths. I leave for the Saint Lawrence on the 19th. I don't think Natural ordered his yet. He was orignally shooting to be in the same class as me, but I haven't even seen him on the board in a while. BUT... We're thinking of changing our club to Wreck Valley KISS divers! There are about 6-7 of us in our area doing the training in the next few weeks. The Block Island trip I'm doing in July changed from me being the one green rebreather diver on the trip to having only one OC guy on the boat! I've heard that Kim said this is the most units they've sold in a year. Are you going with TSC? I wanted to go on their trip this month, but it was full. I'm scheduled for the June trip. I'll need some serious Dutch time after that. Are you figuring me in on the WVKD count? |

If you have questions, the captain can be reached at captaingeezer@juno.com. According to Bob, the Captain of the Outlaw:[edit] he has no problem with rebreathers as long as the person is competent and there is no evidence of equipment problems. i.e. he used to have a guy who would tinker with his the entire way out and still have problems with it during his dives. If you get the chance, take a trip on the Outlaw and show that one diver is not necessarily representative of all. And please, let's not say a boat is unfriendly to Rebreather's unless it's really a case of diving an RB means no spot on the boat. We're potentially in the first stages of RB's really taking root in diving let's not sour relationships at this critical point. Thanks. --Paul |
