Marlborough Sounds New Zealand

Hi Divers, i'm slowly getting my hours up on the O2ptima and hope to get my mixed gas course done later this year.
Have done a few dives with it on the Mikhail Lermontov, New Zealands's best wreck dive (for normal divers) we'll leave the Niagara out of this as it's an expedition dive/s.
One small mod is I now have the lungs held down by just going from the bottom of one, under the waist strap and back to the other. Much better than crotch straps !

Has anyone done anything around the base (to strengthen etc) as I have noticed that mine, the stainless bits are starting to bend, maybe from the boat trips ?
Any other tips out there ?

cheers
Kevin

G'day, can't be too many optima users in NZ can there?

Havn't done Lermie yet - really looking forward to it. You get up North very often?

Mate, up here we free-dive the Niagara from a rubber duck every second weekend. Found an ingot just last week. Would still have it if I hadn't dropped it to nail that striped marlin on the way back up... Oh, we're coming down in November to drag the Lermy up the slope so the numpties can snorkel it from the beach.

Re: Marlborough Sounds New Zealand

So how was that Marlin Ray? Did you bring it back on the rubber duck or did you swim it ashore?

Anyway, if any of you guys are keen we are planning a week long trip to the Lermi in November. I'll be doing it OC but Rebreather's (even rusty ruskie ones) are welcome. PM me for details.

Re: Marlborough Sounds New Zealand

sods :: View Forum - Mikhail Lermontov trip

Basicly we are looking at towing a boat or two down and camping near the ML for several days. We will try and dive a couple of other sites during the trip too.
Nothing is set in stone yet. We may charter a boat instead, We may get accomodation instead.
Places are limited to 12 and we already have 8 or so.
I have not dived it yet so I plan to make the most of it.
I would love to use my IDA but I know I will not be ready to use it for the types of dives on want to do on the wreck.
