![]() | Hello from Tasmania, Australia! Hey all, I've been interested in learning more about rebreathers for some time and eventually joined the site I don't own any rebreathers currently but i have an interest in SCR as well as CCR and i hope i'll find some info on the forums! The ability to extend bottom time in recreational ranges (scr for this i presume), cost benefits as well as comfort and silent diving certainly appeal to me and i look forward to learning as much as i can! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Hello from Tasmania, Australia! Mate, I honestly don't think there are any cost benefits to rebreather diving. The constant consumption of sorb and oxygen coupled with the initial outlay for a unit, even second hand, will see to it that you are forever digging in your pocket. ![]() That said, the sheer pleasure of being able to sample ones salami burp over and over again is more than enough to keep me doing it. ![]() Seriously though, they are an ongoing expense. They need lots of care and attention and you may find yourself modifying your typical dive profile to suit them. For example, I don't hunt on Rebreather because they just don't lend themselves to the constant changes in depth and attitude that go with bug-hunts etc. Don't feel you have to go SCR for recreation. The Dolphin was pitched at the recreational market but that's more because SCR is a simpler concept to grasp and anyone with a Basic Nitrox cert can get the gas they need to drive the unit. In any case, Rebreather World is the right place to find out what might work for you. Welcome aboard and safe diving!

![]() | Re: Hello from Tasmania, Australia! Hey all, Steve Welcome aboard, Good to see another ozy sign up Rebreather World. Get your self up to Oztek Sydney in 2009, everyone will be there, that the place to see all the units on display and pick everyones brains for info and a good deal on a CCR. thats right hey chriso. plus its great to put a face to everyone you talk to on RBW in Aus.I've been interested in learning more about rebreathers for some time and eventually joined the site I don't own any rebreathers currently but i have an interest in SCR as well as CCR and i hope i'll find some info on the forums! The ability to extend bottom time in recreational ranges (scr for this i presume), cost benefits as well as comfort and silent diving certainly appeal to me and i look forward to learning as much as i can! ![]() I enjoy my ccr for 50m plus because I'm alway the one who pulls the anchor out of the wreck at end of the dive. Now I dont stress about how much time I got to get out of there. Its also going to be nice not to see 250 dollars of Helium go up in bubbles in 20 mins if one uses 2x 12lts Oc tanks for 75m dive. Now it should cost about $30 for the helium use each dive. Tassie must put it on my list of diving sites to do. but need new dry suit first. |

![]() | Re: Hello from Tasmania, Australia! Hey Digital Steve My first post on Rebreather World! ![]() I'm in the same boat as you... I'm just reading up on rebreathers and learning about them before getting anywhere near making the big purchase. I've just started reading "Mastering Rebreathers" - it's a great read. Like you, I've just got lots of nice new gear from Chris too so I'll need to get some use out of that first. Besides, you can never have too much dive gear. Chris and I will with at DiveTek in Sydney next year so hopefully I'll get to have a play with all the gear! ![]() Emma |
