Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

Hi, I have a question as I haven't had a chance to see/handle the hoses up close yet, they appear to have a "woven" outer cover? If so then as with other things woven how resilient are your hoses to dirt and grime working its way inside the weave? "Normal" hoses have a smooth surface so its easy to see if they are clean, how about yours?

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

Hi Ben,

The hose is manufactured with two layers of braiding each of which covers 98% of the surface of the previous layer. Due to the nature of how this braiding is made to a very high quality, there is very little chance of dirt remaining in the braid.

But as ever the best way is to see a hose and take a look for yourself

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

Do you have any plans to produce HP hoses for gauges, that are similarly tough and flexible??

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

We are reviewing how we can produce the HP hose to the same standard and hope to have news in the Summer.

Peter.
Welcome to Rebreather World, I trust you can meet our technical requirements. However I don’t agree with your suggestion that the best way is to simply come and see. IMHO The best way is for you first to submit a full disclosure of the product, of the specification and of the test procedure for the hose, before anything else.

In Europe the minimum manufacture method for intermediate pressure breathing hose for sports diving purposes is stated under SAE100 R3, and within the EU it’s EN 854 1 TE. This is minimum and not under all applications.

That is –40 to +100C at 2% elongation. With a maximum operating pressure of 25 barg. Minimum test pressure 50 barg and a Minimum burst pressure of 100 barg For the U.S market there is also the DEMA 106 standard addition.

Further for diving applications there is the elongation and defection of the hose both permanent and tempoary while under pressure over a tube radius of minimum diameter while holding weights on the end fittings.
A further ball bearing diameter vs deflection test is required, and for professional diving a pull test of the end fittings is required.

The abrasion of salt crystals and grit was IMHO a very valid point and I look forward to your full test disclosure and manufacturing specification on this board for this new product.

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

Ian,

Apologies that my posting was not in enough detail and I will arrange a suitable specified response for you.

Our hoses are manufactured in accordance with EN250, as required and each hose manufactured has 30 individual tests carried out on it before approval for despatch.

A full data sheet can be downloaded from our website miflexhoses.co.uk

My response to the earlier posting was simply to advise that to see a hose yourself maybe the best way to compare to a traditional hose, in terms of finish weight, flexibility and finish etc.

Apologies for any confusion caused

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

Peter.
No need for apologies, no confusion here, besides it’s a good opportunity to discuss hose specifications fully with a supplier, and maybe increase awareness in areas of these products to the rest of the group.

Some of us have perhaps forgotten to ask questions about our diving products before, and relay on our local dive shops, who lacking in technical information to give full correct answers, resort to bullshit.

Now this 30 individual tests you carry out on the hose would be very interesting and I think a good start.

One small question I have is with your statement of approval. You state on your data sheet EN250, although this is for compressed air use only and does not cover oxygen or indeed nitrox. While on your data sheet you state your hose is also suitable for oxygen.

I would be very interested in your testing with oxygen and what was the oxygen index for your thermoplastic liner? Also have you done the tests on oxygen with regard to the dielectric property of the polymer liner?

Further with rebreathers some of us use helium mixtures have you done any testing and have you the data on the helium leakage rate, I for one would be very interested.

Just a reminder,
As you are a manufacturer I'm sure you dont mind me reminding you that you still owe the explanation post promised about these hoses as to these 30 odd tests and the EN250 claims made. Also my questions about oxygen and the suitability and testing. You see for all other hoses used in diving you can look up the specific independant SAE rating approval and see exactly what the hose has been tested to and its suitability. I have tried with this Miflex and to date found nothing, save your data sheet and Mirflex hoses for washing machines.
Now I am aware some Italian companies have there products rated under obscure Italian standards but all I can find about Mirflex is this washing machine water hose. Hope you can follow up. Regards Iain.

Re: Hello from Miflex Hoses

EN250 is a Harmonised standard listed under the PPE Directive. The hoses (piping) also come under the Pressure Equipment Directive and require certification under these regulations.
