![]() | Konichiwa - greetings from japan Just joined the forum and moved to Japan. Living in Izunokuni-shi - which for those not familar with the details of Japan's geography is just south of Mount Fuji on the Izu-Hanto peninsular - one of the hubs of diving in Japan. Not currently diving on a rebreather - back on twins due to the logistical challenge / cost of keeping a Rebreather going in a region without much RB support or buddies. But this may all change next year...... Please get in touch if you are living, visiting or diving in Japan. Hugh |

You've arrived just in time to freeze your nads off, but I suppose that when the water temperature hits a minimum of 14 degrees in February it will still be far warmer than a lot of places. The tropical fish will no longer be around, but there's still lots to see and, without the crowds, you can go straight from the dive to the hot tub (most dive sites have onsen-type hot tubs as a service - it is, after all, a volcanic hotspot). The dive services seem ruinously expensive, but there are ways to prevent them picking your pockets. I'm always glad of a dive buddy, and I can point you in the direction of a few other diveaholics. Dive safe, Nicholas |

I am in Tokyo but I dive very often in Izu. Not all dive centers welcome rebreather divers but still lots of points to dive. I also dive double, and trimix. If you need any help or a buddy do not hesitate to contact me. Cheers, Nicolas

![]() | Re: Konichiwa - greetings from japan I live down here on Shikoku. I was looking in RBs about a year ago but couldn't find anyone to teach it to me in the area or even help out with pointers or anything. I've got a serious girlfriend now whos into scuba and I'd like to go off with her in the near future. Any pointers on where to turn for Rebreather training/guidance? |

The only reason that I can see for wanting to do a rebreather course in Japan is if your preferred language were Japanese. A rebreather costs broadly $10k, and you would pay an import tax on it of approximately 30%. If you flew overseas, took a course there and brought the rebreather back as used diving equipment than the $3k of saved tax would more than cover the cost of the flights, course and accommodation. Or so I've heard...![]() |

Both gases are used in semiconductor production, and there's plenty of that in Japan. Taiyo Nippon Sanso, the largest Japanese industrial gas maker, bought British Oxygen's helium operations not long ago. You can buy both oxygen and helium at pretty good prices. If you don't say, the gas suppliers don't want to know what you are going to use it for.Havent taken my Rebreather over yet or done any diving (I go to Japan regularly with business) as im informed its a pain and expensive to get 02 and He??
