| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Hello from Finland My name is Kari and I from Utsjoki, Finland. I am still very green diver since I just got my OWD/AOWD/Nitrox certificates during this year. Rebreather diving is great interest to me and 99% certainly I will roll into Dolphin (most likely) course within a year. Currently I work as research scientist in ICT field so hi-tech things interests me great deal ![]() I have been lurking in the site for a while and I find this very interesting and informative place. I don't have Rebreather right now and likely I am going to go for SCR at first because of the costs and it fits for the kind of diving I am doing right now. Everything is open though... and meanwhile I try to learn as much as there is to learn about rebreathers. |

Not much saltwater in the north of finland.. ![]() So far I have been limited to Tanafjord and Varangerfjord. There is not much saltwater anywhere in Finland. Not at least the kind where you could see anything other than your own bubbles ... and with CCR not even that . Well I am lucky that it is only 100+ km to Barentssea ![]() |

Thanks! If you have any questions you only have to ask. I think Dolphin is going to be my step into rebreathers. I have no need (at least not yet) to go extreme depths. I think it also quite economical choice. I just need to find place to get the training for it. I am going to have couple week vacation in B.V.I. next January, but I haven't found that any center that would have Dolphin course available... Most likely I will get the training in Croatia next May... --- Kari |

CCR training is split into 3 steps from air diluent [nitrox diving] to full trimix. Second hand CCR units can be had for about the same, if not cheaper than a new Dolphin. If you don't need that sort of depth for 3+ years a Dolphin, especially second hand will be a good buy-but beware of those on ebay [see the scams forum for details on how to spot a scam and for current scams]. A Dolphin can also be modified to make it a CCR unit, and most of the parts are easily available.

Thanks for the advice. CCR would be probably future proof investment, i haven't fully decided which way to go... Greater than recreational depths might come into play within couple of years. Full sets with tanks and all seem to go around 1100 - 1500 euros (three sets within couple weeks now). So with training that would be around 2000 Euros investment. Problem is to find training for it Finland, especially now that every place is freezing over It is tough decision to pick a right unit when you don't have real understanding which unit would suits you best.Dolphin would be enough for me for a good while I think... |
