![]() | Martin Burnard Says Hello OK for those that know me from other forums..... do not get excited, I am here to be nosey and have no intention of going down the Rebreather route! Why not? Probably the same tired old argument you ahve all heard before! Ie It will kill me by itself The batteries might fail They don't work Nobody has tested them, you are all guinea pigs. etc In reality it's because I like simplicity, do some dives on trimix but not lots in a year. I am happy with in water time of 90 minutes so not alot of bottom time to be gained from shaved deco (unless I have missed something). My kit gets a hammering (dive in the morning before work, throw the kit in the back of the pickup, forget it for a couple of days, check gas jump in for another dive, throw in the back..... get the idea). They are rather alot of dosh in the first place. I am very much a team diver which appears to be at odds with the world of rebreathers. etc. However I would not say that I will never dive a rebreather (that would be silly). So being a curious chap I thought I would pop in and have a nose around, ask questions etc. Now thinking of questions why do so many people with rebreathers have more than one, or buy one then sell it for another one? It's the more than one that gets me, especially different flavours. Oh well...... Anyway hello everybody Happy diving Martin |

I'm not on any other forums so Hello and Welcome I am very much a team diver which appears to be at odds with the world of rebreathers. Your other comments I suspect you may already have ideas on why they aren't necessarily accurate. As for Team diving, I see no reason at all not to dive Rebreather in teams, in fact its a good idea as there will be more people around to pinch gas off when the time comes to need it! Rebreather diving in pair or more is great, remember- we can talk to each other as well! Now thinking of questions why do so many people with rebreathers have more than one, or buy one then sell it for another one? Change of mind, different types of diving, new units become available, old one breaks, Instructors current on multiple units, different unit suitable for travelling, deep pockets? and once you have one, well its only natural to want another- its addictive ![]() |

Excuse me, but WTF is Martin Burnard ? If you have no ntention of diving a Rebreather, then it is best to lurk and possibly learn instead of making some (IMHO) rather presumptious and could be read as obnoxious comments about people who dive RBs (i.e. team, unsafe, blah-blah) on your first post. BTW, welcome! Last edited by decoweenie : 19th October 2007 at 15:56. |

BTW, welcome! Martin, I think what you really, really want is for us to convince you why you want one. And I think you might be a little tempted already... So why not tell us why you think they are a good thing and we'll take it from there? Knowing the work you do with SeaSearch, I'd say you'll enjoy the closer contact you get with fish. They really, really do come closer and really, really do react to bubbles. The other thing you might like is the lack of worry about breathing gas. It's nice to be limited by deco, not gas. Finally, there is a lot to be said for the warmer, moister air you get to breathe. Other than that, there are plusses and minuses. I'd point out the migration towards RBs and ask yourself why the majority of tech divers seem to be using RBs. It can't all be about status, can it? Anyhow, I know you're not a troll, so ask away.

Ie It will kill me by itself The batteries might fail They don't work Nobody has tested them, you are all guinea pigs. OK Keep your hair on I did say the same old tired arguments, so for those who are not sure...... that means I don't agree with them etc In reality it's because I like simplicity, do some dives on trimix but not lots in a year. Financial viability is not in my favour.... I am very much a team diver which appears to be at odds with the world of rebreathers. A statement based on my limited observations, but this also applies to a lot of OC technical divers in the UK etc. However I would not say that I will never dive a rebreather (that would be silly). I am sure at some stage I said I would never get married or have children, so hence the paragraph above So being a curious chap I thought I would pop in and have a nose around, ask questions etc. Now thinking of questions why do so many people with rebreathers have more than one, or buy one then sell it for another one? It's the more than one that gets me, especially different flavours. Oh well...... Anyway hello everybody Happy diving Martin So now that you get the idea (hopefully) that am here to be curious, you can wind your neck in and be a little less sensitive, then Decoweenie we can insult each properly when appropiate (spelling?). In the meantime I can browse and learn. happy diving Last edited by Martin Burnard : 30th October 2007 at 12:37. Reason: cant' spell decowennn, decoweee, decoweenie! |
