Glad to be here

Hi everyone,

I have been diving for 15 years, went technical 10 years ago and am now IANTD Trimix.

I have been looking at CCR's for some time. I started off shopping for the best 'all-singing-and-dancing' electronic units. But, after much research and consideration of the potential failure modes when mixing electronics, notoriously unreliable O2 sensors and water, I decided to go full manual. I eventually purchased a Pelagian DCCCR (mCCR) from Andy Fritz www.rebreatherlab.com a couple of months ago. I am very happy with its performance, design philosophy and build quality and can highly recommend this unit.

I am British but have lived in Asia for the last twenty years. My preferred diving (in order of preference) is wreck's, caves and fast drifts accompanied by at least a few large sharks All my diving to date has been in tropical water and I have NEVER worn a wetsuit, even on long deep dives. I am aided in this by the fact that I carry more fat than the average Walrus I am moving back to Guernsey, Channel Islands, UK next year and I am NOT looking forward to getting acquainted with drysuit’s and low vis.

However, I am looking forward to being an active member of Rebreather World and hopefully diving with you guys (and girls).

Hi there!
Glad to here that you are here on Rebreather World and that you are happy with your unit!
I just left Koh Samui after a year there and will be teaching Pelagian courses at La Laguna Beach Club, Puerto Galera Scuba Diving Philippines in Puerto Galera Philippines from now on.
We have some rather interesting wreck dives and liveaboards lined up so do you feel like a little trip here just let me know!

Cheers
Roger

Thank you for your response.

I did a lot of diving in Porto Galera in '93 and '94, staying on both Big and Little La Laguna beaches.

I would love to return for some diving and will let you know when my schedule allows.

Regards,

Carl

You started me thinking........... are there any live aboards servicing Technical and Rebreather divers around Coron and Tubbataha Reef? I am trying to get a small group togther for 10-14 days late November, early December.

If we can put something together we could open it up to members of Rebreather World.

I was diving the Pelagian on Sail Rock today and had two great hour plus dives wearing licra

Regards,

Carl

Re: Glad to be here

Carl, hopefully we'll be able to give you a "warm" Florida welcome and we won't have any cold thermoclines on the wreck of the Hydo Atlantic on November 4th!

Looking forward to meeting you in Florida.

Adrian

Re: Glad to be here

Hi Carl!
I will look in to it today!
I know that Coron could be possible.
Tubbataha has a very short season because of rough seas and the season is around March-April. Only open for 2-3 months of the year.
What about Subic bay?
Will let you know asap.

Cheers
Roger

Thank you for the greeting. I spent the last week diving in Thailand and the lowest bottom temperature I had was 28 Centigrade at 43 meters (82 Fahrenheit at 141 feet) .

I am just about to buy my FIRST wetsuit for the Hydro Atlantic diver .

I look forward to meeting you on the 4th.

Regards,

Carl

I am definitely interested. What is the cost for 5 days diving the wrecks off Coron?

Are the charges per diver or is there a flat fee for the boat? Do you have a website giving details on the boat?

Please come back with details ASAP. I am doing a wreck diving trip in the Gulf of Thailand on the MV Trident from October 19th to 22nd and hope to get some of the guys to join us in the Philippines.

Regards,

Carl

Re: Glad to be here

Hi Carl!
Here are some more info.
Its 200 USD per day/diver and this includes accommodation on boat, meals, drinks, divemaster, diving, weight belts, tanks.
In Coron Bay, there are more than 8 wreck sites to adventure in the beautiful surroundings of Northern Buswanga.

The boat is a brand new traditional Banca captained by Mr Frank Doyle who is one of the most experienced captains and tech divers in these parts.
He built the boat with technical diving in mind.

A few facts about the boat.

Lenght:100ft/30m
Beam:20ft/5m
Made of 15mm marine plywood.
Powered by a 360hp diesel engine.
Cruising speed 10knts.
Range 300 nautical miles.
2000 liters water.
2xGPS.
2xDepth Sounder.
VHF Marine Radio.
Bauer 6.7CFM Compressor.
4 twin berths air-conditioned cabins.

Have a think about it and you can contact me on rogeringebo@hotmail.com
Try to get Andy to come ;-)

Cheers
Roger
