CDG QD as it lets you use just about anything

Instructor Yes/No
It was suggested I rethink my career when I tried so no.

What other training have you found most rewarding
Training with an Argentinian freediver in Thailand. Really enjoyed learning SRT for caving, first training trip on rope was into Alum Pot via the Long Churn with snow coming down the shaft, it was great.

What’s your standard Kit
Classic KISS reinforced with duct tape.

Number of Dives
Stopped logging at 1000, probably 2500'ish

Deepest Dive
124m OC, 98m CCR

About 4hrs in Trou Madame in France or 6hrs in Murrayfield recompression chamber

The Ressel in France

The Ressel in France, triple light failure with deco bottles not staged on the line

What dive/trip would you most like to do
St Kilda, west coast Canada or Alaska, I like cold, clear water

What ONE other question should I have included?
I've just been watching the news and it's been annoying me... Where do they find ski masks in the Middle East? It must be about 100deg

Re: Get to Know each other :-)

Name
Nigel V. Hewitt
I do have a middle name but I don't normally tell it to Americans as it only gets me into trouble. They aren't always sure what a Nigel is but they know for sure that a Vivian is a girl, I just spell it funny. The day a company show at Comdex in Las Vegas involved me arriving jet lagged to hell and back and discovering I was rooming with somebody called Chris so I left a note and crashed out...
You can guess the rest.

Location
Brighton, Sussex, UK
Less than 600 meters from where we park the club boats.

First Qualified
OC 1998
It all stated with a try dive on holiday like it does for so many people.
Only my holiday was an archaeological trip to the Orkney Islands so the try dive was in a dry suit in Scarpa Flow.

Rebreather Qualified
Inspiration TDI mod 1 in 2002
IANTD Mod 2 in 2004

Club Member
Sussex Diving Club BSAC

British Freediving Association

Highest Diving Qualification
AIDA ** Freediver
(You wanted the one that took the most work and gave the highest sense of smug self satisfaction I assume.)

Instructor Yes/No
BSAC ADI (the lowest rung of the ladder)

What other training have you found most rewarding
Diving probably the NAS Airlift course or maybe it was Martyn Farr on Caverns for muppets.

What’s your standard Kit
Inspiration Vision but it's not standard kit.
Add suit inflate tank, Bob Howell's ADV and BOV. Reg on the O2 with shutoffs). Metalsub brackets on both sides for clip ons. Then, if appropriate, add two 7L/232bar stages containing bottom mix and 100% with injection whips and fill the pockets with spares and hang on blobs and reels.

Where do you usually Dive
UK South Coast

Number of Dives
Only 250 total of which just over 100 are on the CCR. As I dive 'more tech' I seem to dive less often. I don't get a huge amount of time to just go and dive. Also I have a very silly hobby for somebody who gets seasick very easily.

Deepest Dive
60 meters. Most of the stuff I'm interested in is in the 40-60m range.

Longest Dive
2 hours. I claim I don't like hanging on a string but the deco does seem to add up if you want to spend time understanding a lump of rusty metal.

Favourite Dive
Elisabeth Osborne : 1820 wooden wreck (classic fat-bottomed shape) in the Gulf of Finland. I really didn't think there were things like that left to dive.

Worst Dive
Some shallow reef with a badly packed scrubber (suicide 101).

What dive/trip would you most like to do
Jutland. It's booked for next May.
I'm sure I'll find another one after that. It would be sad if there was one key 'must do' dive and everything from then on was down hill.

What ONE other question should I have included?
Do you want to buy my torch?

I suppose I should acknowledge how much help I've had over the years. I came to diving relatively late in life (48) and I've had some problems. Being a working physicist may make the theory easy but the in water skills have been hard work at times. Then my track bike racing caught up with me and I thought the heart attack would finish diving but no, the medical people beat me up every year but pass me to dive. I've needed more time and more help from instructors, buddies and others and I appreciate it.
