| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Hi Rebreather Forum, I just wanted to quickly introduce myself as a fresh member. My name is Cam, I have spent the last 6 years diving on open circuit as a Dive Instructor and Technical Officer for Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. I have now moved to Brisbane for further study and with this relocation came the opportunity to learn some rebreather diving. I am looking to start a Dolphin SCR course in about a month as I would love the new dive experience and less voice then Open Circuit. I was thinking of choosing the Dolphin as I thought it would be the most cost efficient and viable rebreather for a PhD student with limited resources ei cost to buy 2nd hand, gas and scrubber refills etc. I was also interested in the Azimuth, however I struggled to find units and instructors in queensland and new south wales. There are plenty of postings that I need to look through but if anyone has suggestions on dive operators, units or are keen on diving together in Northern NSW or SE Queensland over the following couple of years I would be very keen to hear from you. Kind regards Cam ![]() |

| Go Nude Or Go Home Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Introducing New Queensland Diver HI Cam Your best choice and about the only Rebreather friendly shop in BrisVegas is Dive Dive Dive: Welcome Page Jason and Damon run a tops operation and may well be able to sort you out with a second hand unit. Also Byron Bay for some fun diving, Giac at Dive Australia Scuba Diving with Sun Dive Byron Bay is most happy to have Rebreathers on the boat, but does not pump O2 at the moment. Cheers Chriso

D3 prefers 2 people for a course. There is currently another person looking to do a Sports kiss course in Brisbane, so you may be able to get a course together pretty soon if you register with D3 OR contact Marekm on here, as he is looking to do it as well. | Banned Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Introducing New Queensland Diver Hi Cam, Firstly, the advantages and capabilities of a mixed gas CCR far outweigh what is offered by a nitrox orifice based active addition SCR. Secondly, I'm looking to do a Sport KISS course at D3 as soon as practicable. If you are interested in making a booking and sorting out schedules for when you can do the course send me a PM or email. Cheers. -Marek Mrozkiewicz |

![]() | Re: Introducing New Queensland Diver Having done the Dolphin course a year before my Sports KISS course with D3, I only dived the Dolphin about 10 times before deciding it wasn't worth it. The Dolphin has all the disadvantages and only a few of the advantages of CCR. Go the Sports KISS course, understand what CCR diving is all about, then keep tabs on second-hand Sports KISSes here and ebay. Now you can get second-hand KISSes, it's really not worth going the Dolphin route, IMO. Also, keep in mind if on the PhD scholarship budget, going CCR makes it harder to go with any commercial operator in Queensland, it's hard to find buddies (for your own safety, you should dive with other Rebreather-aware divers), and many RB divers are doing longer, deeper, more expensive diving. It's also more expensive as now you need to own tanks, pay for sorb and fills, and pay for more maintenance and cells. You also need to consider what dive computer you use, and whether it is suitable for constant PO2 diving. I love diving the Sporty, and dislike OC now, but it's hard to justify without a larger amount of disposable income. Do the course though, and get to know Dive Dive Dive - it's worth your time. I'll see you around, no doubt. |
