![]() | Complete Newbie Hello all, Brand new to diving and not even remotely close to investing in a Rebreather but since my aim is eventually to do some tec diving i figured i'd poke around here and absorb as much knowledge as possible so that when the time comes to buy a RB (Late 2008 possibly) I'll be well informed. |

Might I suggest before you get too involved in tech training you migrate to Rebreather first. Since you know you are going there anyway. I wish I did before I bought a mountain of regs, long hoses, double tanks... well you get the idea.Brand new to diving and not even remotely close to investing in a Rebreather but since my aim is eventually to do some tec diving i figured i'd poke around here and absorb as much knowledge as possible so that when the time comes to buy a RB (Late 2008 possibly) I'll be well informed. I would like to see the day when a diver could do basic open water cert on a CCR. Good luck on your adventure. I am sure we'll be hearing from you again.

![]() | Re: Complete Newbie Thanks for the welcome guys! wedivebc, thats exactly why i'm hanging around here. My girlfriend and I are both keen on doing a lot of wreck diving and once we added up the costs of twins, multiple high quality regs, gas etc it seems that a Rebreather despite being one very big costly chunk of gear would be better value in the long term if you're going to go there anyway. The one question this poses to me is; How much OC diving and OC tec diving should one do before transfering across to Rebreather? I've heard a couple of people say that masses of OC experience is not all that desirable as you basically have to relearn a lot of stuff when you go Rebreather. true or false? Anyway, at the moment i'm just enjoying learning to dive and I've got plenty of time to sort out where i'm going since the chances of me being able to afford a Rebreather this year are NIL! |

![]() ![]() | Re: Complete Newbie IANTD has tested, and recently introduced, a rebreather course for recreational divers. As all dives in the program are no-stop (commonly called 'no decompression') dives, the diver is trained to go onto their bailout bottle, which is an extra cylinder the diver wears, at the first sign of a problem and ascend. The Op2tima FX is actually designed as a recreational Rebreather, although for little people like me, my oxygen metabolic rate allows me to use the unit for technical diving. There are other units coming out this year for recreational use as well. With that said, an Rebreather is a serious investment in money, time and training. On top of that, many recreational boats will not allow an RB on board. I agree with Dave; enjoy learning to dive recreationally. You have many years to decide if you want to move toward RBs, technical diving, or both. What's the rush? :-) Hope this helps, Peri
