![]() | G'day from Mongolia Hi there all - I've been lurking here for quiet some time, but as I'm now getting to the 'Asking Stupid Questions' stage of rebreather enlightenment I thought I'd log in. I'm a geologist based in Mongolia with a couple of hundred OC dives through Asia, the Pacific and back home in Tasmania. If you have any questions about diving in China, Siberia, Mongolia or any other such diving hot spots then let me know. I'm planning on getting trimix certified in the coming year and I'm debating either going down the doubles path or short-circuiting the process by getting a Rebreather: I'm currently salivating over the rEvo. I'm sure I will have many stupid questions in the coming year. Cheers, Rohan.

| Born Again Diver! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: G'day from Mongolia Hi Rohan, Welcome to the board. I'm Stevens S's mate in Beijing. Hopefully we will get together on the lake thing in August. In the meantime, I am hoping to work out how to use my Sport Kiss in Mongolia, and have been trying to figure out a reliablish O2 supply. I gather SOS gets it in from Russia, but perhaps you would have some ideas? Oh yes, please don't forget to let everyone know how horrible it is in Mongolia and that they should not even consider visiting! Feel free to give me a shout when you come through Beijing next and you have a beer and fiddle with my toys. BTW, my SK fits in my hand luggage, so no problem travelling with it. Cheers Dave |

![]() | Re: G'day from Mongolia G'day there Dave - great to hear from you! Yep - Mongolia is full of fat ugly girls so stay away everyone else (I won't even mention the Goldern Horde down at Maggies..) ![]() I've been meaning to chat with the SOS doctor up here about sourcing some O2 for the trip - I'll give him a yell today. I assume we would have to fill your tanks from medical cylinders using a booster- but I'll look into it and get back to you. I'd love a chance to go over the sports kiss, preferably with a few beers. I'm after a mCCR as I think its the way to learn good habits in Rebreather diving, and it needs to be small: so the SK and the rEvo both look good. I'm only transiting through Beijing this month but will probably stop over in June/July: If not then catch you at the lake. Cheers, Rohan.

Probably not much for wrecks, considering the Mongol aversion to boats - are there interesting natural formations? It's always been my dream to dive Lake Baikal.

![]() | Re: G'day from Mongolia Hi there and thanks for the welcome! Robin - Lake Biakal is a great place to visit and theres a excellent dive operation at the lake that is tec freindly. Diving in the southern end is mostly on tall algae covered walls, but if you get on a boat and head north theres a fresh water seal population (how it got there is an interesting story). The area around the lake is also very senic: rustic woodern villages, snow capped mountains etc. No diving in Mongolia though a group of us are planning to dive Lake Kvosgol (just to the south of Biakal) in Northern Mongolia later in the year. No idea what to expect other than cold water, great vis and big walls. There is one known wreak in the lake (the mongolian navy lost their boat) and plenty of car wreaks on the bottom that have fallen through the ice during winter - unfortunately most are still occupied. I'm going to investigate the feasibility of raising a few during the trips this year. Cheers, Rohan.
