Hello, Everyone

Many of you know me from ScubaBoard. I've been a longtime lurker on the rebreather forum there, and decided to pop in and sign up here, as my interest in rebreathers has grown. I don't know whether or not I'm ready for a rebreather. I'm sitting right around fifty dives, so I'm still very very new to scuba diving, but the more I see/hear/read about rebreathers, the more intrigued I am. I'm trying to see what's out there on the market and what the choices/options/complexities are in possibly a homebuilt unit. Nice to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to the interaction.

My best to you,
-Frank

There are 2 camps of thought when it comes to the number of hours one needs to have before they jump to rebreathers..... most will tell you 50 is a ZERO short of a good number... however I know people who have 5000 hours of OC and they have no business changing to rebreathers.. I belive the aptitude of the diver needs to be tested...as one can not simply go by the number of hours in the water...

some here will even argue in your favor... as there are certain OC skills that have to be "un learned" Cedric recently trained a diver that had only 20 hours in the water.

You will find this board is an amazing souce of information on rebreathers.. like trying to take a drink off a fire hose...

You will find that some people on this board are...shall we say passionate about there points of view

but we welcome you with open arms....

Re: Hello, Everyone

I would expect nothing less. It's always rewarding to be around people who are passionate about what they do. I'd like to think I have good aptitude for rebreathers. I have flown planes and ultralights and been a US Army flight medic on medevac/helicopters, so paying attention to checklists and having good attention to detail and self-discipline are not new concepts to me. For now, I'm gathering information before making any kind of decision. It would be great to go somewhere and try one out, and if I purchase one, I'll be going through a training class anyway, right?

If you buy a new unit they will ship Key parts like the loop hoses or the ADV to the instructor...

but the best advice I can give you is go take an introductory class... and actually get into the pool with 6 or 7 makes and models...

go to this web site

ADM Online

They have listings for intro classes..... there is ususally one some where about every 90 days....

Re: Hello, Everyone

Excellent! Thank you! I'd certainly like to take a class first, to see if rebreathers are something I'm comfortable with, before shelling out that kind of money. Hrmmm... Rebreather or Drysuit... Hrmmm....
