First time posting eh

I am relatively new to this type of communication. I have been diving for over 20 years now and I want to get a rebreather. I am hoping to get some insight about all the different types out there. I am open to suggestions and experiences people have had. I hope to be able to find a portion of the information I need before purchasing since it is a big enough investment.

Welcome to the forum. There is a growing rebreather community on Vancouver Island. I personally know of 7-8 inspiation owners and 2 current meg owners with 2 new ones to follow in a couple of weeks.
I have used a variety of rebreathers and now find my megalodon to be the best piece of dive gear I have ever owned. It is by far tougher than anything out there and yet travels easil. I can pack my meg in a travelpro case and carry it on an airplane.
We will be holding a rebreather tryout experience in Nanaimo on june 16th if you are interested in checking out a few different rebreathers.

Welcome to the forum!

For your information quest, the library is a great place to get reviews of many different RBs. And the forums have Rebreather specific sections where you can pick the brains of devotees.

Good luck.

Hello Dave,
Thanks for the info. July 16th, I will try to make it, I might have to be in Montreal. In your travels, have you ever come across someone with the Dive rite Optima rebreather?

I took my CCR cave training with Mattmexico on this forum. He has a prototype o2ptima in his shop. When I was there the previous year Mikedive also on this forum was training a group of o2ptima divers at Protec in Playa del Carmen. I have not dove one but I have seen several.

If I may ask, what is your take on the difference and what would you look for in a rebreather unit? How do they do in the water off Vancouver island?

Boy this can start some serious flame wars when we start mentioning things we don't like about others rebreathers. I can state for the reasons mentioned above that I very much like the meg. One thing that is very important to me is reliability and I have to say this is one of very few items of dive equipment that has worked flawlessly for a year now. Other than changing batteries and sensors everything has worked perfectly and I am quite hard on my dive gear.

I didn't mean to start anything. How about the cold water effect, any problems? As well, Have you done a lot of diving on the island?
