Hi From Sunny FL, Copis Megalodon...

I'm located in Ft lauderdale, I currently have my Trimix OC, I'll be ordering a Copis Megalodon in a month or two.
Any good trainers in this area?
Do any of you guys sell your Doubles after buying your rebreather? I still have my doubles and have been thinking about puting them up for sale

Isn't that Tom Mounts neck of the woods? He is on the mend now but if he is not able to train you I am sure he will point you in the right direction.
Unless you need the money I would hold off on getting rid of the doubles for a while. You may find that O/C is still a option for some dives.

Most of my twinsets have been gone, but I do keep a couple of sets for:
  • teaching
  • wife to dive
  • use as storage tanks to drive booster for CCR, or storing trimix diluent to pump to CCR tanks
If you plan to do none of those aforementioned things, sell them.

Re: Hi From Sunny FL, Copis Megalodon...

Thanks for your Advice..

I've decided to sell the doubles and a few other things that I probably won't need with the Rebreather, I'll keep my Deco Bottles and regs for bailout.

Looking forward to diving a Megalodon.

Steven.

I am one of the people that believes in using the same configuration all of the time. So, I would sell anything other than what you will be using for your new CCR. (Keep all open circuit gear that you will be using for bail out and the like.) If you are using a booster or something where you need drive gas, then keeping your doubles might be worth it.

One of our Florida S.C.R.U.B. divers will be receiving his Copis Meg by April. How about diving with us?

Re: Hi From Sunny FL, Copis Megalodon...

Hey Steve,

I just finished my training on the Meg about a month ago. I was looking for an Instructor here in Ft. Lauderdale as well and the only one I could find was Tom and he's a tough one to nail down as he's very busy. I finally had to go with someone outside the area as I was pressed for time and had to get the training done ASAP. I would highly recommend doing your training in the North Florida springs as the conditions are always perfect, the vis is 100 feet+ and you can spend as much time in the water as you want without having to worry about a boat schedual. I would also highly recommend Jill Heinerth as an Instructor. She lives in High Springs so she's right in the middle of cave country and all the fresh water springs. If you want to contact her you can call her at 386-454-4497.

Good luck and welcome to the dark side.

why not keep the tanks for dilluent and o2 trans filling...running to the shop every time you need a top off is a drag.
