Whats going on at AP

Now first of all I’d like to state that I don’t dive an inspo and I’m not here to gloat or be sarcastic, what I am is someone that if I don’t get the customer service I expect then I like my voice to be heard and I want things rectified to my satisfaction and no one else’s.

When I first decided to go over to rebreathers my first choice was AP’s inspo. But when your spending thousands of pounds on a piece of equipment then it make sense to do some research, my first port of call was here at RBW, and even back in October 05 I could see there were problems with AP and their servicing habits and their vision electronics and in the end I thankfully went against buying a inspo with vision electronics and instead went for the MEG.

Now I regularly come on here to see what’s going on in the world and I have learnt so much from this site, but the reoccurring threads about AP’s servicing charges and the ongoing problems with the vision leave me filled with horror.
Why are people still putting up with this level of customer service, rebreathers are after all life support systems, do you think that if a manufacturer of a hospital ventilator sold systems that didn’t turn on when needed or turned themselves off when they felt like it or screens not come on, then they would say “oh send it back and we’ll look at it” or do you think they would recall the whole lot .

At the moment there are a number of threads going around about problems. One guy brought 5 units with vision electronics and all of them have a problem, now that’s been put down to some faulty diode batch, have AP recalled all the units with these diodes?? The answer is NO … WHY NOT. I don’t understand .

Then there are the problems with servicing, the inspo has been around for many years now so why are they still using handset that crack ( not that you can see it when you send it away but its there when it turns up at AP
allegedly )
. Why are they still using a loom that needs to be replaced every 3rd service, I don’t know any other rebreathers that have that issue, plus refusing to service the unit unless it has their cells in it ( even if the cells are brand new ).

Now I can understand why us brits don’t complain because WE DON’T THAT , (but we’ll happily join a long queue) but I am surprised at our friend across the pond who love customer service, I know if it was me I would be shouting from the highest building.
But no one seems to say anything WHY WHY WHY.

I DON’T GET IT

Re: Whats going on at AP

Here we go again , Stu why are half your posts AP bashing ones!

OK so you think the Meg is the best thing since sliced bread, I hope that is the case when the electronics can do the same as the Vision.

Why not just give it a rest!

I have had nothing but good service from my unit, as has the 10 or so people I personally know on the units, when there are as many Megs out there as there are Inspos then we may see some difference in peoples attitudes to them.

One happy customer.

Stand by for the fun to begin!!!

Dammit ...it already did..wasn't fast enough

(Another VERY happy customer with an excellent service history from APD!)

..and a thought... Why IS it that MEG users are taught to use their finger rather than the electrics they spent a small fortune buying?

Because it costs a fortune to ship it back to the states to be fixed and things go missing.

I am still waiting for parts from America for my HH. Apparently the first parcel went missing 5 weeks ago

Much as I detest the run around i got from AP at least i can drive there in about 5 hours.

Aside from which the Meg is still awaiting a head to compare to the Vision. Aftermarket Shearwaters don't count.

Re: Whats going on at AP

Ah cmon guys most of you are inteligent enough to know there is always two sides to every story, on here you only hear one side as AP are too busy providing a good service to respond.

Also you shouldnt belive everything you hear, epecially on the internet!!

I expect AP do get it wrong now and then but mostly they do get it right. As for the inspo bashing, well when you take into consideration that they have sold many times more rebreathers than all the other manufactors put together they will probably get a few more reported problems

Problem is...people are far more likely to moan about a (perceived) slight than to praise excellent service... so you will always get a tainted opinion from the web. I have had excellent service from everyone I've come across on the (rare) times I have had cause to contact APD.

And as for what I was saying ...was merely pulling that dangly leg of yours a bit!!

Maybe they just sometimes get simply overwhealmed by the sheer demand for their far more popular products..

.. a bugger when you are so damned successful
