| Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. I was wondering if any of you guys that have fitted a back plate had a problem with the square on the back of the box for the manifold. How flush does it fit? Some one has knocked a few up with a cut out of them, a picture can be seen here on YD, do you think it's necessary? | PROTEC MEXICO ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. yo I did use a stainless steel backplate on my Inspo. I had to widen the holes to make it fit. After a while I wanted to get the unit riding higher on my back to facilitate a horizontal position and lessen my back pain, just drilled new holes into the backplate to have the unit ride higher. As I had the backplate off I changed the box wing to a Dive Rite classic wing with 65 lbs lift. You could even get a double wing on then to have redundant lift capacity. saludos Matt |

| Re: Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. Thanks Matt, I have a new wing to put on, the Oxycheq Vertex 55lb. I have tried it with the standard harness and it fits very nice. The main difference with the plate mentioned is it has a cut-out for the hump were the manifold goes. |

| Re: Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. Marin Robson of Eau Zone fitted a new 6 kilo Agir backplate and a one piece harness to my Vision. I'd really encourage you to lose the original harness and the four straps for harness and CL's. Much neater. Charlie |

| Re: Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. Thanks for the replies, seems that the bulge from the manifold is not a problem, think I'll go for a Kent tooling 3mm plate. |

I did the same azs you are gong for. The KT Back plate is pretty good. ]#The only thing i needed to change was threaded bolts that were with the unit were not long enough because i was using an OMS wing. The oms wing has some metal rings on the holes for the bolts which are not present on the AP wing. Therefore the AP bolts were too short. KT provided me with the required bolts as well. |

| Re: Fitting a backplate to an Inspo. You could even get a double wing on then to have redundant lift capacity. Something to watch out for... some "bungee" wings have a lot of tube volume across the top. Check that when fully inflated this doesn't rise too far and thus put pressure on the hoses from the top of the scrubber to the T-pieces on the counterlungs.... a gem I picked up on a recent course with Decodiver.... thanks Dave!!The OMS wing only has two holes in it so it is hard to adjust its position relative to the Inspo case - unless you put in some new holes. I am planning to reinstate the Inspo wing - after replacing the inflator and pull dump. Other than that I had no probs using an OMS backplate with the Inspo... no need to cut any slots in it or anything. Really good to get rid of some of the clutter you get with the APD harness. Ask John if he can make the holes and slot bigger for you. ![]() With a CD TDB wing. I cable tie the bungees at the top so it dosent crush the breathing hose when its inflated. Much nicer to use on the surface with heavy stages. ATB Mark Chase
