Angry Classic Inspiration...cell trouble

Inspiration Classic #1 cell the electronics says replace so I did. Put it back together and says same thing. With the head off I gently moved the wire around and it came up. Couch dived the unit all seems well. Took the unit to the pool and before I got in same problem. Unit says #1 cell replace. I again moved the wire around and it came up. Put the unit in water and worked fine. Came back next day for more testing and same problem. The Molex connector seems to be the problem. I noticed a faint Black substance on the pins of the new #1 sensor and I'm sure it wasn't there when installed. Also this sensor seems slow or weak on calibration but is new. Did not come up as fast as the others on 100% inject on calibration. How can I test the cell? How can I test the connector? The new connector... are the leads crimped on or soldered? I thought I read somewhere about black connector ends and/or the wires leading to them. Will the connector leads come out of the molex connector body for inspection? Anyone have any similar experiences? Thanks in advance for your help.

sounds like the previous cell leaked electrolyte.. You need to replace the molex connector.. to do it right you need the right crimp tool..

We had a similar problem. Your wire into the molex is corroded and probably hanging on by a thread. When you fiddle with it it makes the conection to the cell but with vibration and movement the wire moves and results in a faulty connection. In time, probably very soon, the wire will break from the molex.

If you have black stuff on the pins of a new sensor it's probably from the molex connector so the pins need to be cleaned carefully, your wire trimmed until no more black showing and then a new molex attached. This is done easily with care and patience.

If a cell is slow on calibration doesn't mean it is slow to react during a dive. We have one cell each which is slow to reach 0.91 ish when calibrating but the other 2 reach there values quicker. However, this slow cell is infact my quickest reacting cell. I reckon your cell is OK as long as it reaches the same or very similar values before it diplays 1.0 on all 3 cells.

If it is reading consistently like the other 2 during a dive and you've tested it by taking it to 6m and flushed with 100% and it shows 1.6 it should be OK. If it falls away during a dive or doesn't reach 1.6ish but the others do then you've got a problem cell.
