Re: Yet another travel frame

Was it cheaper to make than purchasing one on the market already?

John charged me just over £100 for the one off work, that's quite a lot cheaper than the alternates, BUT, this frame doesn't do everying a "box" will, so it is an individual choice as to what you want.

Thumbs up Re: Yet another travel frame

Hi Dave im so glad it's working out for you.
dose the unit still stand up on the little base? or is the material to flimsy?
i could have made a return on the base so it came back up under the scrubber thet may have been a more stable design and would have rased the unit up making it a little easier to get into. along the line of my other stands.
kind regards john routley

Re: Yet another travel frame

John,

I'm sure that the design can be improved, but the unit does stand up on its own. On a boat you would need to secure the top to something but the base is strong enough the bear the weight.

Now I need to get it in the water!

Re: Yet another travel frame

This looks really interesting particularly for those of us who don't need something that will do all a box frame will do, and are just looking for less weight and volume to travel with.

How much does the whole thing weigh without cylinders or lid?

I have the large CL.

All kit (no lime) = 14.7 kg
Head in handluggage, rest = 12.5 kg

I think I might carry the regs and hoses in hand luggage (coat pockets) as well - I haven't weighed them but they must be about 3 kg all together.

Re: Yet another travel frame

hi david did you weigh the stand on it's own?
i think it cant be much more than 1kg total(out of water)
so in water it will be only a fraction of that.
kind regards john

I did mention the weight in the article, they are just over 1 kg in air (or luggage!),

Re: Yet another travel frame

Nice work. I'm amazed almost all of the aftermarket stuff people have done is still pretty big especially when compared with the evo shell. I like the minimalist approach. Let us know how it fares on dives.

If John refines it I'm sure he'll find a few buyers...maybe a design that uses a backplate as the central trunk and a couple of bolt on parts.
