Cell voltage

Hi,

Does anybody know the reason why if it's necessary to use an adapter to check out the cell voltage ?
What damage can be caused by not using it ?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Eveline

Re: Cell voltage

Hi Eveline,

What do you mean by "necessary to use an adapter"?
What kind of adapter do you think of?

Just use a multimeter and that's it! (if you don't disconnect the cell)

Re: Cell voltage

On the newer vision cells it comes with an adapter that you fit to the cell & then put the probes of the meter onto the adapter plug .This prevents it shorting across the terminals if you slip with the probe .that is as I understand it from my instructor .

Re: Cell voltage

Ah, OK, I just forgot that the Vision/Evo has a different connector.
Thank you.

Re: Cell voltage

It Depends On The Type Of Sensor You Are Trying To Test. Some Sensors You Can Access The Pins Very Easily Others You Can't.

Re: Cell voltage

the old classic cells were easy to do (3 seperate pins ) but the new vision/evo cells (APD10) are fiddlier

I just put my multi-meter prods in gently.

Admittedly the only thing I ever discovered that was used by divers but was still diver-proof was the Combro Stainless Steel backplate. We even tried driving the company van over one and it just made dints in our car park. SMB connectors have a nice petite center pin and ham fisted Harry will bend that in no time and then refit the plug with his port-hole removing lump hammer and wonder why it doesn't work anymore.

Re: Cell voltage

Probably to prevent the centre pin of the cell being bent or broken by insertion of a probe.....

I can't imagine that there would be any electrical damage, especially for short duration short circuit. It would only be mechanical damage or ease of access to the connectors.
